That's why you take pitches when the tying run is behind you in the ninth.

It's also why you shouldn't miss run scoring opps in the previous inning.

Not sure two runs with have scored on that double-turned-single even with better baserunning, but 2nd & 3rd with one out

sure gives you a better chance moving forward than merely 1st & 2nd

So the Astros move from the Mets directly to the Yanx ... although have to shuttle halfway across the country to do so.

'Stros scored three times in the top of the 1st ... and then gave it all back in the first four batters in the bottom half.

What was that line from a candy commercial a couple years back?: 'Not going anywhere for a while'

Game is national on MLBN btw

This game settled down after a 3R HR gave Houston a 6-3 lead in the 2nd

So how does Astro closer Pressley start the 9th inning with a 3 run lead in a stadium with a 250ft fence ... by going BB BB HR (Aaron Hicks) of course. Still no one out.

The HR was the Yanx first hit since the 1st inning and their third of the game.

The dozen runs scored in this game have come via four 3R HRs

And now two more singles ... with the only out coming from a CS between the hits.

Get this guy outta here!!! (and now they do)

Yanx win.

Astros pitchers faced eight batters in the 9th and threw maybe a combined five strikes ... and four of those went for hits.

Fuckin' pathetic!

I hate that the MFYs came from behind to win, but I'm so delighted to have seen the heretofore impenetrable Astro bullpen crack.

Know who looks better than Luis Castillo to me despite superficially lesser 2022 stats? Tyler Mahle looks better.

Mahle is two years younger and currently making $2,000,000 less so he may be a tougher get from the Reds. Both are controlled through 2023.

Fun Fact: The Luis Castillo Watch dates http://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30994&p=84032&hilit=castillo#p84032all the way back to January.

Phils are in SD this weekend,

Braves, meanwhile, are hosting the Dodgers where a pre-game tribute to the returning Freddie has him crying on the field.

oe: and now he's trying to take his AB but it's taking a while

Even then. Twas take the bad contract and he's yours.

I dunno what I'm doing on that McNeil offer, not my best moment. Mahler, ok too I guess

LAD Reliever Daniel Hudson tries to field a swinging bunt but collapses in a heap as his left knee seems to buckle.

Not finishing this game and might be missing for a while in my totally un-expert opinion.

Astros need only one 3R HR today to win 3-1 behind Verlander.

Last night they hit two 3R HRs but wound up losing 7-6

Verlander, btw, is 39 y/o coming off two seasons of inactivity (six innings pitched total in '20/'21) due to TJS, currently has a sub-2.3 ERA in 14 starts

To bring the rest of you up to speed,

The Yanx have been no-hit thru 7 by Houston's Cristian Javier

An Altuve HR in top 8 made the score 2-0

But at 115 pitches, Javier was pulled in favor of Hector Neris who promptly walked the leadoff hitter. Now one out later, he's threatening to walk the next guy.

Torn ACL, out for the season

Astros start the 9th inning Walk, Double, Single, Single ... yet score just once as one guy ran through a stop sign w/no outs and was easily nailed at home.

Eh, don't worry, you've still got a three run lead and the Yanx haven't overcome one of those since ... oh yeah, it was Thursday, AGAINST YOU!!!

Not our highest priority right now (except maybe for bmfc) but the Nats just lost on a walk-off HR

Braves/Dodgers on FOX at 7

Phils in SD late tonight

Bryce Harper out indefinitely after getting hit by an Ian Snell pitch and breaking his thumb. Somehow this hasn't happened to every Met already this year.
