Braves actually have to play some major league teams this week, starting with SFG tonight and LAD next weekend.

Currently 1-1 in bottom 9 in hot 'Lanta

2 on, 2 outs, Braves batting

Brewers beating the Cardinals 2-0 in the eighth, sole possession of first place on the line.

Braves scratch out a walkoff 2-1 win over the visiting Gigantes, keeping pace 5 1/2 games behind the Mets.

Phils and Nats idle.

Damn Yankees win again.

Yanx lost tonight (despite scoring twice in the 9th) ... a fact always worth noting these days, for its rarity if nothing else.

9-8 SFG over ATL heading for bottom 8

This one might still have multiple twists and turns yet to go.

Down by 2 in bottom 9, Braves tie it up and are still batting.

1 out / runner on 1st

Phils lost

Marlins winning.

Nats in rain delay

Luis Castillo Watch: 5 IP, 4 ER, 6 K, 3 BB, 1 bases loaded HBP in a no-decision loss vs LAD. This was his worst outing in a while, but, you know, better than Carasco yesterday

Yeah, but any pitcher can look goodish if you imagine bumping the guy who had the worst start in the most recent turn of the rotation — Carrasco one turn, Williams on another turn, Peterson on a third.

But it doesn't work that way. He's would displace a single guy who is presumably consistently a poorer choice than him. Assuming Carrasco is hitting the injured list and being replaced by Scherzer (neither of which is certain as of this post), the guy he'd displace would be Williams.

Asking if he's a consistently better performer than Williams simply gives me an answer of "-ish." But having Williams as a backup and a bullpenner certainly makes his addition a plus in and of itself, depending on what they give up.

But with the off days and the rehabbing pitchers, I think the Mets see a lot of moving parts, and probably are going to wait until the deadline to make their move, even if they've perhaps already got some tentative agreements in place.

But the deadline approacheth, so we'll see soon enough.

So do the Braves.

Better sooner than later.

The only thing that would change would be the price, which could rise if other clubs see the gap is closing.

You never want to seem (or be) desperate when negotiating a deal.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I don't get how "So do the Braves" is a response to "We'll see soon enough." Did you quote the passage you meant to quote?

If the claim is that prices go up as the deadline nears, I disagree.

Ah. Well, they have 13 games and two off days before they meet the Braves

They have Taijuan Walker and Chris Bassitt and Trevor Williams lined up for the Miami series, and possibly Max Scherzer displacing Williams in that third game. We don't know yet if Carrasco's back is expected to be an ongoing issue, so it's not like they'll be going any deeper anytime soon.

I'm a little more concerned about the absence of Jeff McNeil from their offense.

Same o. Mcneil, and point taken, re picking and choosing convenient examples. My point with Castillo from the start was reliability-- he's been up there in Quality Starts for a few seasons, that's a good thing to have in an up and down season

Los Bravos up 6-1 already after two. Thanks, Gigantes... for nothing.

Doug Eddings, apparently doing a great job calling a game — just not, it would seem, the game in front of him.

I'm not gonna watch again, but was every blown call with Chicago pitching?

Some of them sorta looked alike--like, so I'm thinking OK, adjust to a wide zone for right-handers--then he starts missing low and high too. Nightmare

Giants inching back into things. Dodged a bases loaded bullet with one

out to keep things 4-7 through six.

I can't speak to all 29 blown calls (including extra innings), but seven of eight calls in that video sequence were favoring Chicago pitchers and screwing Toronto batters.

This was Tuesday's game, and Toronto's hitting coach Guillermo Martinez brought out the card before yesterday's game, brought up the performance, and got himself tossed before the opening pitch.

Won't be long until some ump's nephew or niece is found out to be making

bookoo bucks on some betbethere.com.

Giants inch a bit closer with a run in top 8 on three consecutive singles.

The only problem was that the final single was off the wall, so they c/should have had another.
