While buzz is buzzing about Francisco Alvarez, the Mets have an easier option. Forced to choose between reaching down to the minors for some red-hot fresh talent, or protecting their top asset from premature exposure, I would suggest that they can do both by promoting Mark Vientos.

The guy is hotter than the Devil's underpants. He went on the the injured list and came back out still crushing, putting together a two homer/5 RBI night in his second game back. He's gone .260 / .343 / .532 // .875 in 43 games in Syracuse, and he got 11 games there last year (when he killed it also), so he's not as green as all that.

He's already on the roster, and he's two years older than Alvarez — plus he gives you versatility, playing third, left, and first, and started his career at shortstop (though he doesn't catch). He's goofy looking and comes off as relaxed, but has a nice set of teeth.

I think he might be ready to be a 2022 Met, and who wouldn't want to be that?

Escobar's absence was attributed to a 'non-workplace event.' Buck went on to say “That's all I can really say legally,” which kind of sounds uncool, like he'd tell you all of his player's personal shit if it wasn't for that damned nanny state. i mean, it probably doesn't mean that at all, but it kind of reads like it does if you're trying hard to glean implied meanings.

Speaking of implied meanings, though, "event" kind of suggests injury more than illness.

Anyhow, I hope he improves quickly, but if he's even unavailable another day or two, Vientos makes for an appealing replacement option, and debuting as an injury replacement can really take the heat off a guy.

I know it's probably bad taste, but *how* bad taste for a poll on this Escobar situation?

Could be anything from a foolish type off field injury-- a skydiving mishap, perhaps -- to a serious disease state.

This is a Wilpon-Era type mystery that's thankfully become rare

When has the possibility of bad taste stopped us before? (j/k)

Buck said that is all he could say legally.

Is the law involved - criminal or civil?

Wide spectrum there- from traffic accident/ fender bender to a felony.

There are probably more possibilities than can be put in a poll.

Yeah, that was a big blunder: That's all I can really say legally. Buck should've simply said that he had no more to say without using that "legally" word or the "really" word. Something like "No more questions." would've been a neat escape or "That's all for now".

I read somewhere that a wild boar is likely not related to this latest news

item. So that's something!
