I'm sorry if it's in another thread, but any more word on our last-night injured?

"day to day" from what I read earlier this evening...both said that they feel better, no broken bones, fractures or pulled muscles...but swelling on Pete's hand needs to go down a bit...and from the Jose Reyes memories, we know how "day to day" hamstrings/calfs/quads strains usually go

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mets-pete-alonso-and-starling-marte-considered-day-to-day-with-injuries-out-of-wednesdays-lineup/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mets-pete-alonso-and-starling-marte-considered-day-to-day-with-injuries-out-of-wednesdays-lineup/

[bLOCKQUOTE]X-rays were negative on Alonso, who was hit by a pitch; Marte has quad tightness

"I'm just really blessed and happy nothing is fractured or broken," Alonso said Wednesday (video). "Just having the chance to get swelling out, I'll take that if I were to end up getting hurt."[/bLOCKQUOTE]

Pete actually has, as I never tire of noting, remarkably close lifetime OPS vs. RH or LH pitching. Of course, he is needed in the lineup, but it really doesn't matter which hand the opposing starter uses.

Nobody likes bunting for hits more than I do, but two outs and bases empty and Guillorme on deck probably isn't the ideal time to deploy the bunt single.

Mostly though, I don't like this new Mets strategy of "Let's see how our pitchers do with zero support!"

True, but if the second baseman is respecting your ability to pull the ball by standing on the lip of the OF grass, it's a pretty high risk/reward ratio.

Two days ago, I compared Alfaro to Jason Momoa, but how we actually have a guy on the mound of Polynesian heritage.

Anyhow, fantastic manes on both of them.

George Shmendrick.

Hefner's been recently making some trips to the mound that ... don't produce immediate results.

Who was Keith just talking about that was a great teammate and overshadowed by Dave Parker and Dave Winfield? Missed it.

Thanks.

This is a real craptastic outing from Bassitt.

4 of his last 5 starts have been subpar or worse. We should be worried, right?

Through five innings, that bunt single is the team's only hit.

Had McNeil pulled that out this inning, in which he batted leadoff, it would have led to a run.

Assuming, of course, everything that followed would have happened exactly as it did.

Andruw Jones is the all-time top player from Curaçao, but by the end of the series, I'm thinking that Jurickson Profar will have topped him.

It just went to 11-0, so ... we better get them back in New York.

Mets rally for two in the seventh, cutting the San Diego lead to single digits.

Not looking like it'll last because the Padres are starting to make some more noise against Joely Rodriguez.

Single by J.D. and he's the tying run.

And by that I mean, if he scores and the next eight Mets reach, he'll bat again as the tying run.

And, inexplicably, they continue to swing at the first pitch.

I suspect they may not win tonight. Two outs in the ninth.

I guess there was mercy in this game only lasting 3 hours. I went to sleep with them down 2-0, just before it all went sideways.

What you might have missed.

Manaea wasn't that good. The Mets bats just seemed out of their depth. Between being banged up and missing key parts, they seemed to be on their heels. They never seemed to know what was coming, but what came wasn't that deadly.

The Padres were successfully hitting against the shift most of the night. They certainly got devastating extra base hits to clear the bases, but only after packing them with baserunners via opposite field singles and walks.

Not having an "Oh, shit, this is the guy you don't want coming up" guy in the lineup really seemed to give the other hitters an identity crisis.

Cahna doesn't have the arm for right. There may have been a slight identity crisis on defense as well.

When they signed Bassitt, it looked like he was going to be a perfect #3 or 4 starter in the rotation.

Kast night he pitched like #2.
