Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Nice! A Met, a former Met, and a several-times-rumored Met.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Surprising not to see mcsquirrel nor Guillorme on the list…
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 In the newly created "Utility" category you will not find Luis Guillorme or Jeff McNeil but you will find Tommy Edman who is nominated at 2B and Daulton Varsho who is nominated at RF. To me, if you've played enough at a position to be worthy of a nomination at that position then you should not be nominated for the award created for players who move around the field.https://www.mlb.com/news/2022-gold-glove-awards-finalistshttps://www.mlb.com/news/2022-gold-glove-awards-finalists
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 I like that the nominees for the utility player included a classic 2b/3b/ss utility infielder (Tommy Erdman), an infielder/outfielder (Brendan Donovan), and a catcher/outfielder (Daulton Varsho).Sorry not to see the Mets classic 2b/3b/ss utility infielder (Luis Guillorme), or infielder/outfielder (Jeff McNeil) there.I agree that nominating a guy as both a specialist and a generalist would seem to be beyond the spirit of the category.

But I feel like the GGs are the awards most often botched over the years in terms of awards given out.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 jeez, they had the right idea, and then colossally fucked it up. who do they think they are, the mets?!

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 We still have to see what Look Magazine has to say about it.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 In case you're wondering, there IS a Marvin Miller Award, and Lindor has been nominated. The Marvin Miller award was created in 1997 as a players' choice award and recognizes the outstanding on and off-field performances of players. https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-lindor-named-finalist-for-marvin-miller-award/https://metsmerizedonline.com/francisco-lindor-named-finalist-for-marvin-miller-award/Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 The above description sounds slightly like that of: The Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Mets shut out of the GG but former Met Andres Gimenez won at 2B for the Guardians. Not surprising, the kid could always stick it out in the field.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 They already announced the winners? I thought that they'd wait until after the World Series.
