The /pukes/ world champion Atlanta Braves visit the Apple tonight as Max Fried (2-2, 3.00) opposes Chis Bassitt (3-1, 2.25).

Ronald Acuna is back but the Braves are just 10-13, having lost 2 of 3 over the weekend to the Rangers. Matt Olson replaces Freddie Freeman and is off to a good start but I'm just not as scared of him. Our pals Travis d'Arnaud and Guillermo Heredia will be there, as will Darren O'Day and Colin HcHugh.

Sticking with the Beeges, who served this forthcoming 17-game winning streak well in its first day.

Smith gets out of bed and removes his apnia mask, having (a) finally gotten two starts in a row, (B) just collected four hits and 3 RBI in his last game, and © hearing that the biggest impediment to his playing time is gone.

Then he arrives at the park and learns he's not in the lineup. Tough day for a lefty.

On the other hand, he also wasn't optioned to the minors whilst he slept either, something which was considered a possibility around the time he was putting the mask on.

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that he's at least going to be a regular against righties going forward. Just a coinkydink that they drew a lefty today.

I remember Ralph Kiner being flabbergasted seeing Wally Backman not in the lineup a day after he went 6-for-6. Apparently, they had platoons in Ralph's day, but the hot hand was the hot hand. And not a lot of platoon players had splits quite like Wally.

Fixed that for you.

Bad call on what should have been strike 3 to Swanson in the 5th winds up costing Bassitt around a dozen extra pitches despite no actual damage on the scoreboard.

Fried has, like, no ass.

Like, Jerry Blevens could throw an elbow at Jacob deGrom and say, "Look at that guy! Where's his ass?!"

He might even have negative ass.

Those extra pitches Bassitt hadda throw after he was robbed of the strikeout vs. Swanson each felt like four pitches.

I don't get how the booth represents a guy hitting against the shift or bunting for a hit as something like a stolen hit that a player in a slump will do because he can't get something like a legitimate hit.

That's just good baseball. Hit away from the shift all day.

And now the game is tied with two in scoring position because of dudes going the other way against the shifty.

Bassitt's curve is working great, but he tried to double up with it against Acuña and that's probably not a good plan.

But somehow Nimzo tracked it down. Somehow.
