Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Braves' turn to face the Nats; in Atlanta for three on the same sked as our series w/Philly [Night, Night, Day]Nats lead 5-1 but they started about 45 minutes later so are just in bottom 5
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 So 31 y/o identical twins Taylor & Tyler Rogers got the save and loss in the SDP/SFG game last night in FriscoLHP Taylor, who spent his first six ML seasons with, yes, the Twins, notched his 3rd save of the season for the 4-1 Padres. In the other dugout, RHP Tyler, now in his 4th season w/the Giants, gave up the tie-breaking run in the 7th and got hung with the 'L'

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 and Myles Straw. The Indians, oops, Guardians may not totally suck.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 We now have an official baseball season.He's BAAAACK!https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/reds-braves-angel-hernandez-ripped-for-more-bad-calls?fbclid=IwAR16OpdKRqrc8tC8oWpnAFJxzX6ZbmgHZKNZSMZpscJsxKeIBUfqq8X4uUshttps://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/reds-braves-angel-hernandez-ripped-for-more-bad-calls?fbclid=IwAR16OpdKRqrc8tC8oWpnAFJxzX6ZbmgHZKNZSMZpscJsxKeIBUfqq8X4uUsLater
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 We also had a debut yesterday Alyssa Nakken becoming the first XX-chromosome individual to act as a coach on a major league field, taking over at first for the Giants after the ejection of Antoan Richardson.A cynic might suggest Richardson got tossed intentionally to get the debut over with at home in the their City Connect duds, but Coach Antoan was pretty pissed, alleging that Padres coach (and mysteriously fired 2021 Cardinals manager) Mike Schildt called him a "motherfucker" with racial overtones.[FIMG=600]https://s.hdnux.com/photos/01/25/13/46/22329764/6/ratio3x2_900.jpg[/FIMG]A lot of interesting storylines developing in the first week of the season.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Kershaw pitching a perfecto through 7 innings vs. the Twins.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Author Posted April 13, 2022 Nats win today in Atlanta, take two of three from Braves

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Gary Sanchez of all people breaks up the Dodgers perfect game.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Good. And I hope the bullpen somehow gives up 10 runs and they lose
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Author Posted April 13, 2022 The Yanx lose.THAAAAAA Yanquis lose!!!!Blue Jays, perhaps a serious threat in the AL East this year, take two of three.Whoops, they still have one more on Thursday
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I like it when the Blue Jays don't just roll over for the Yankees.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Off days are stupid. I guess I'm watching two random teams play baseball tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 You can always check in on the Yanqui game [7 PM, MLBN] to see if Vladdy Jr. can drop three more bombs on the Yanx as he did last night.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Kershaw said all the right things: was OK with the decision, hadn't even gone six innings in ST, missed all that time last year, already has a no-no (though not a perfecto) to his name, etc.Wonder what he'd say under truth serum?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 The weird thing is that, when pitch counts became of primary concern, "innings pitched" seemed to become more understood to be an artificial construct. What was an inning? It was three pitches to one pitcher and 40 to another. Definitely better to use total pitch count when judging how much work a twirler has done. But now, we'll use both/and. Whichever offers the first, best, and most convenient explanation for pulling a pitcher from a game.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Up/downs and down/ups being, of course, Luis' new way of reverting to innings pitched as a measure of usage.I guess it's a human quality — you add an artificial sophistication as a façade to resist real sophistication. An insecure response to the fear that the world is passing you by.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I don't think pitch count is all that accurate either. He was fucking cruising. If a guy throws 80 pitches in 3 innings that might be a lot worse than 80 over 7. my question would be at what point is a guy "laboring"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I agree. As I wrote above, whichever offers the first, best, and most convenient explanation for pulling a pitcher from a game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 80 pitches is about average for 5-1/3 IP, and Kershaw was there thru 7Now maybe his 2021 injuries cut back on his winter work and that, plus the lockout/shortened ST, put him behind the 8 ball and he really was OK with having his outing capped. Roberts has to answer for it and I'm sure he did.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Meanwhile, as we wait out our off day, the Nats are getting their ass kicked by Pittsburgh (now a final), the Braves are down 7-zip to the Padres in the 6th, and the Sillies have already lost to Miami. So about as good as an off-day can get.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 South Siders come up with an offensive game plan that should be henceforth known as The Chicago Strategy.https://twitter.com/GleyberMetrics/status/1514690488313470982
