Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Twitter is chattering about a 3 way involving Mets, pads, cubs that moves Dom Smith, Eric Hosmer and Chis Paddock.Mets fans are rightly worried but I'm thinking about moving some offense for a reliable starter cuz it's a safe bet this degrom shit is going to drag on for a while.Sean Manea of the As is said to be out there, and certainly they'd dig a guy like Davis or McNeil
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I think they definitely should trade one of those three guys for a starting pitcher.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Hosmer would be a second bloated contract (Cano) and Paddack was a little b*tch about Alonso getting the April Rookie of the Month Award. If the Mets are going to trade Dom then what does OAK want for Montas (or Manaea)?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I may be cherry picking, but I tend to think the Mets have gotten swindled (outscouted, anyhow) whenever they've dealt with Billuh Beane.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 And the Mets have a bullseye on their back to overpay for a starter.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I think you have to be careful. It's not clear that Paddock is enough of an upgrade over McGill or Peterson to justify bothering. And Smith/Davis/McNeil are at most one injury on offense away from being badly missed. I'd sooner trade nothing for Johnny Cueto than give up somebody I might miss for a mediocre arm. That being said, I'm talking to the A's. Montas is worth having.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Paddock for Smith sounds good to me and if the price of that is Hosmer's contract, well, it just Cohen's monopoly money
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Paddock has been trending badly and was injured last year. Hosmer is of no use as there are already 2 DH's in Cano and Davis. And if he's going to play first Piss Missile Pete won't be happy as the DH. I know the Padres are trying to get out from under the Hosmer contract but this looks like Cano/Diaz 2.0.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I do think there are better deals to be had. Maybe some other team will see this and make a better offer.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Latest iteration of the deal per Jon Heyman includes Emilio Pagan joining the Mets along with Paddock and Hosmer. Padres to throw in about 25 mil of Hosmers salary. I wonder if Mets keep Hosmer or have a plan to flip him and the remainder of his salary somewhere essentially paying for a prospect?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 If Dom wants to play every day, OAK is a good spot b/c they could use a 1B https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/athleticshttps://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/athleticsMontas is excellent but has another year on his contract so he would not be cheap. Get it done, Billy.
