bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 (edited) I remember liking Marcus Stroman. Now I see him as classless and I can't wait for the Mets to embarrass him this season. The tweet insulting the Mets and Eppler (for the tragedy in Anaheim) was deleted but not fast enough:https://twitter.com/oliviapipia/status/1496320428595453963 Edited February 22, 2022 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Did Billy Eppler publicly do something controversial recently?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I suspect that he is referring to the guilty verdict of the LAA employee who distributed drugs to the late Tyler Skaggs.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Good riddance, then, if he was so miserable. He should take into account the fact that like 97% of the Mets fans thought he was great, but, you know, shit on all of us, it's fine, whatevs
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 is he wrong, or just wrong for saying it out loud? because if eppler was still the gm of the angels, he should oughtta get fired for what happened on his watch.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I really like Stro too, and still do. He's probably right, honestly. His beef is with the org, not with the fans. But who likes their boss, really?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 There was a 2nd tweet where he said some nonsense about Mets fans. I think he pulled it since then, I can't find it, but it's out there.OE: "Very very thankful to be out of there for several reasons. God always got me. Beyond excited to perform for an incredible fanbase who appreciates their players! @Cubs"Aw, uh, eat shit, my man.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 he's also not wrong about a certain fanbase not appreciating its players.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 I'm not sure how much blame I'm willing to give to Billy Eppler for Skaggs' death. I'm not even sure how much blame I'm willing to give Eric Kay.While it's clear that the Angels failed Tyler Skaggs at some level, the Mets have failed any number of their own players in the same manner, as so many institutions of society continue to fail the drug abusers in their ranks every day. My best friend from childhood has seen his life spiral in the last several years — losing a solid career in publishing following several bouts with heroin abuse and a torrid affair with the co-worker who introduced it to him. The employer gave him two leaves of absence to get himself detoxed and rehabbed, but on the third strike they let him go. Were they remiss in not cutting him loose earlier, exposing other workers to his toxic bullshit, or were they cruel and uncompassionate when they finally cut bait? It sounded to me like they did their best, but if he died in their employ, could his family sue the company because a co-worker was his partner in debauchery? Indeed, she introduced him to it.I can guess at what my responsibility is when I'm confronted by that sort of shit, but there are no easy answers. And most folks are just looking to pass the buck.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Sounds to me that Stroman was already pissed off about something (lack of contract offer?) or about several somethings, and is using the Eppler hire (not exactly timely now, eh Marcus?) or whatever else he can conjure up as an excuse to tee off on the org in general.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Stroman adds to his rant by claiming he regularly received death threats and racial taunts while pitching in New York and that the front office was indifferent.Tweet: “Endless death threats, being called a n—– often, hearing black lives don't matter, and playing for a front office who didn't care about any of that,”https://nypost.com/2022/02/24/marcus-stroman-mets-fans-used-n-word-sent-death-threats/https://nypost.com/2022/02/24/marcus-stroman-mets-fans-used-n-word-sent-death-threats/
