Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Yeah I've pretty much always hated the Brewers and I never thought the ball-in-glove logo was anything more than clever; it's not really good-looking.The Brewers since coming to the NL have played a role in fouling up several late-seasons for us, most notably in 07 or 08 when they couldn't TCB at home vs. Philly while we we struggled down the line. Richie Sexton was always hitting HRs against us. Braun is a dick whose tee-shirt line was gross and ruined a FedEx guy's career rather than takex responsibility for his own shit. Contrast his career with Wright's and it'll make you vomit.Selig was a pud who was something of a role model and enabler for the Wilpons. Just like Fred he was a self-made businessman (cars instead of real estate) whose sensibilities were so wrapped up in his 1950s youth he went and built a baseball biz out of it (Braves, Dodgers). Each of them stole a team (Selig the Pilots from Seattle, Fred the Mets from Doubleday), each of them displayed ethical shortcomings (conflicts of interest as owner-commish; Bernie Madoff profiteer). Selig was the first in modern bb to plaster outfield walls with sponsor logos, Fred saw that and sold every square inch of the stadium. Both of their parks are located in giant parking lots. I hate the Brewers.I like the Giants.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 1 out of every 10 calls was incorrect. I don't blame Hernandez, he can't help being awful at his job, I blame Manfred and the Umpire's Union which rewards longevity rather than ability. There was a call so bad in the first quarter of today's Jets game that I'm sure that it was made by Angel Hernandez.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 Balls flying out of Fenway early, 2-1 Rays after one.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 The Brewers since coming to the NL have played a role in fouling up several late-seasons for us, most notably in 07 or 08 when they couldn't TCB at home vs. Philly while we we struggled down the line.In September 2008, the Brewers pulled off the unlikely trick of losing four straight to the Phillies to tilt the NL East away from the Mets, then, after firing their manager, getting hot enough to nose the Mets out of the Wild Card. Like a double-agent reverse-spoiler on their own behalf and against ours. That said, they don't bother me in a vacuum.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 How do ya score this Keirmaier hit?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Grounds-rule double, seems pretty sketchy to me
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Yeah, Rays got dicked right there pretty bad.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 That felt like the baseball equivalent of the Holy Roller.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 (edited) It's absurd. It wasn't "fielded cleanly" so it "retains its status as batted ball" and therefore "is a ground rule double", thus rewarding the fielder for his misplay. And it facilitates a Boston win. F that.Because it was "deflected", Boston wins. Edited October 10, 2021 by Guest
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 Rays were robbed at least a little.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Reminds me of Zvon for some reason. I forget the spelling but he usedto say thassa baseball or something of the like.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Dusty Baker overmanages by replacing Garcia with Garcia in the middle of Garcia's at-bat and Garcia blasts a 3-run homer.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Wondering if there's any leeway for the umps to make a different ruling if, in their judgement, the fielder intentionally deflects the ball over the wall so as to make it a GR-2B thus preventing a runner from scoring?I don't believe that Renfroe did do that here, just a what-if kind of thing.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 HOU v CHW now tied at 6They're also at the two hour mark and in the top of the 4th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Even wackier (non) call in CHW/HOU game.1st & 3rd, bouncer to 1st, throw home hits the batter/runner in the shoulder while he's several feet in fair territory inside the line.Run scores, everyone safe, Sox now up 9-6 in a game where they trailed 6-1 about an inning (and 90 minutes) ago.Apparently that run inside the 'lane' to 1st applies only if the play is at 1st. But this one was at home and so his running lane is whatever he establishes it as so it's a live ball even after it deflects off of him.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 I was at Fenway tonight, and the was a FUN game to attend.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 White Sox blackout Astros. We get another four-game day later today.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 5:14 (13 innings although it was already closing in on 4:00 by the time they were finished with 9) & 4:27Y'know, if this trend continues it might really start to become a problem for the sport.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Author Posted October 11, 2021 White Sox pen went into full shutdown mode after the slugging of the game's first half. It was stimulating to watch in its own way.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 That bank shot off Renfroe for the ground-rule double was one of the weirdest plays I've ever seen. But yes, there was a rule for it. Rule 5.05(a)(8)
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 With the Boston Marathon running today, the Red Sox-Rays game should've started at 10 am.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Both sides PH for their pitchers in the 5th inning of a scoreless game when each gets two on w/no outs.Brewers wind up with a big fat nothingburger out of it while Joc Pederson PH's a 3R HR for the Atlantans.
