bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 The Emmy Awards are on. SNF is a good matchup (KC @ BAL). I'm doing standup at the Silver Branch Brewing Company in Downtown Silver Spring, MD... and the Mets are playing again. Because the schedule says that they have to. Rich Hill (LHP) against Kyle Gibson (RHP).Gibson pitched 6 innings and gave up one ER against the Mets on August 6 but who hasn't?Look at Conforto's numbers against Gibson:https://www.mlb.com/gameday/phillies-vs-mets/2021/09/19/632407#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=632407https://www.mlb.com/gameday/phillies-vs-mets/2021/09/19/632407#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=632407I was talking to my friend Jesse who is a WSH fan and like all WSH fans he doesn't like PHI because of Harper. It's a WSH thing, they think that he should have taken less money and played out of the division but he didn't so they hate him. Really, that's their logic. And Jesse, who is having a heart procedure tomorrow at Hopkins (thoughts and prayers from the CPF) asked me to "bring home a win tonight" because of his dislike of PHI. I said, "I'm not a Met so I can't miss a 95 MPH fastball right down the middle. I'm not a Met so I can't waive at a down and away slider two feet out of the strike zone. Only they can do that."LINEUPS:Phillies:1. Freddy Galvis (S) SS2. Jean Segura ® 2B3. Bryce Harper (L) RF4. J.T. Realmuto ® 1B5. Andrew McCutchen ® LF6. Matt Vierling ® CF7. Ronald Torreyes ® 3B8. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Any notion that Dom Smith is in the doghouse?I mean, sure, he played his way out of his playing time. But it's not like McNeil has totally wiped him off the map statistically, but he's sure wiped him out of the lineup.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 I think it's more like he can't hit.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Why did I see that (Harper running) coming the entire time but no NYM on the field did?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Dom with the key knock there! All knotted up
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Dom with a pinch hit double to drive in McNeil and Nido. Tie game 2-2.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Yes, apparently Dominic Smith can hit after all.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Dom clearly failed to read 'Stranding For Dummies' even though its on the required list
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Five innings, two hours
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Did Baez see even a single strike in that AB?He saw maybe 8 or 9 pitches but I'm not sure even one was in the zone.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Since Dom's double, not a single ball out of the infield.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 (edited) Loup gets out of it as Realmuto grounds out with the bases loaded. Edited September 19, 2021 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Hey, McNeil hits his first homer since the crunk era.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 McNeil goes KABOOM!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 Jeff won't slam his helmet for that one.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 That ball sounded sweet off the bat.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Terry may not have a lot to say over the long haul, and he's got more than a few "What I used to tell the fellas" cliches, but he's generally a good listen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Good to see Louper come out to open (at least) the eighth.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 The 8th inning of a one-run game and ESPN brings out the baseball talk show to discuss whether Bryce Harper should be the NL MVP, a discussion that could have occurred earlier in the game, or in the pre-game show or never.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Diaz makes it a little more exciting than I would hope, but gets through the 9th to preserve the win.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 (edited) Hooray! Jesse will be happy (that's a callback to the thread opener). This one finished before SNF. Edited September 19, 2021 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Sweep the rest of the season and ... well, that'll probably still fall short of the playoffs, but it'd be something.

ATL has an "only if it matters" make-up game against COL on 10/4. The Mets sweep, COL wins the makeup game, and (unless there is a bizarre tie-breaker) the Mets and ATL play one game for the NL East championship.deGrom walks on the field and says, "I'm ready!", pitches 5 perfect innings and then Luis takes him out because he has had too many up/downs.

Gives off enough authority to feel informative but not too "you wouldn't understand you haven't played the game" that some guys give off. I'm NOT having to listen to him for an entire game so maybe it grates after a while but I've enjoyed it. Give me Howie back and keep Terry and it'd be better again! Edited September 20, 2021 by Guest
