Perhaps don't worry as much about a game-tying homerun from Soto when the guy behind him has a lot of power, too.

I don't have SNY available today but Howie thought that the reversed call was correct. It seemed as if it was possible that Lindor's heal grazed it while he was holding the ball. What did Gary and Keith say?

Villar did everything he could to add to his total number of times getting thrown out on the bases by 1) admiring the flight of the ball 2) jogging to first 3) turning his head to watch the ball and the fielders instead of focusing on the 3B coach and running as hard as he can.

The Mets would be better off if Luis made his decisions and then did the opposite, like George Costanza.

The irony, by not counting visits to the mound following the announcement of a pinch hitter, is that it pretty much guarantees there will be a visit to the mound following the announcement of a pinch-hitter.

Clever use of "grant" on the day that Ed Anser passed.

Three multiple-run innings in one game.

I mean, it's game three of a series against the post-abscission Washington pitching staff, but I'll take it.

I noticed this, and also mentioned it during an IGT, a couple days ago.

And after picking up on the trend, EVERY PH appearance since has triggered a PC visit.

Further irony is that twice in the last two days NYM hitters have knocked the first pitch from an incoming reliever over the fence... so maybe these conferences aren't quite as valuable as managers think.

Wayne mentioned this Twitter feed:

As Villar's HR was a unicorn--it would not have been a HR in any other ballpark.

Seems odd that the LCF gap in CitiField would be shorter than Wrigley in the same location, or in Philly for that matter, although some parks, Houston for instance, have higher, even if shallower, walls which would have kept that shot in the park.

Don't really care though as that was the most impressive HR of the day IMO despite the greater distance of the Baez or Bell shots.

And Smitty got an RBI single, though it took four pitches.

One of my proposed rule changes is that if a batter gets a hit immediately following a mound visit that team loses mound visit privileges for the next two weeks.

I have a better idea: 1 mound visit per team per game. that is it. play the game.

I don't got nothing against mound visits in general. When they come in the midst of a rally, and the pitcher needs a reset, and the defense is gathered around to anticipate where to play and where to throw, there's generally something going on there. There's baseball substance. I just noted the irony of the rule change triggering a meaningful increase in one type of mound visit.
