Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Paparazzi almost added to the lead with a jolt of his own..Now we need Diaz to do ... better.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Some lousy calls gets Civil War Ben Gamel a leadoff walk.Let's get a Nogowski double play NoGOW!!!!Nope, but a fly out is a start.

I knew that was gone -crushed- the split instant it was hit. Thorne called it like it was gonna be a routine fly out. I thought the ball was so obviously crushed that even Thorne's bad call didn't throw me off the trail. As the ball was sailng outtathere, I'm thinking -- WTF are you looking at, Gary?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I guess the thing not to do in this series is to get ahead by six runs.

I thought the ball was so obviously crushed that even Thorne's bad call didn't throw me off the trail. As the ball was sailng outtathere, I'm thinking -- WTF are you looking at, Gary? His secondary narrative was suggesting a routine flyball. Initially he seemed to think it was a swing and a miss. He was missing balls all over the place — often stalling until the play was complete. He blew the final out too.I wonder if their monitors can put can put a glowing atmosphere around the ball (is that called a tracer?) for guys calling the games remotely. He seemed to occasionally have interesting thoughts to offer during the series — some hackneyed stuff, but not as much as some other baritone septuagenarians — but he really seemed to be out of his depth in figuring out what was going on on the field, all three games.Given enough time, he hopefully could adapt, but it's just a three-game junket.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I actually Just Now!! got through this one via delayed (and not knowing the outcome) viewing. After nearly throwing whatever was in my hand at the time through the TV set (and likely through the wall behind it) during bottom 1st, i was skipping bottoms of innings for a while for fear of seeing more 3rd graders playing some sport which vaguely resembled baseball. This had to be the most ridiculous game at the end of the most ridiculous series (double series really) in a very long time.btw, watching via half-inning and commercial skips still took around three hours
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I caught the last few innings -- got to see them get the lead back and shut the door for the W.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Fun Ralph fact dropped by Gary Thorne today: Part of the reason Ralph frequently malapropped Gary Carter's name into "Gary Cooper" was because he was actually buddies with Gary Cooper.Because he was Ralph Kiner. It was institutional bits like this, among other fun digressions, that made me think he wasn't a hopeless cause despite his struggle to pick up the action off of the monitor.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I dunno about Gary Thorne, but the monitors didn't seem to bother Wayne any
