Maybe the answer to 3B is JDD. Let's hope so.

Meanwhile, should we be concerned about Dom AGAIN?

Complete game 4-hitter for Steve Blass in that 1971 WS clip they just showed. Two seasons later he'd utterly lose his control.

Time of Game: 2:10

Fuck WPIX games.

Have to stream this over dubious illegal internet streams. Stuck with the Pittsburgh broadcasters.

Hoping not to see the Mets hit into nine DPs today.

3 out of 3 innings. It's painful.

So many ways to stay out of double plays.

As a manager (which I'm sadly not) my entire philosophy is built around staying out of double plays. They make me insane.

I love Pete, all right-thinking NYkers love Pete, but tonight:

1st inning: 5 straight balls, yet he swings and hits a lame flyout. I know it's easy for us and he's Pete and knows his zone but take a pitch until the guy shows that he can throw a strike, right?

3d inning: now you can hit that flyball... except he feels the weight of the lineup on his shoulders so he chases and hits in that innings' DP.

Christ, 0 for their last 16 with RISP, between yesterday and today. Tough to win that way

Ways to stay out of the double-play.

  1. Take when you're ahead of the count.

  2. Steal.

  3. Hit and run.
    1. Specifically on 2-1 counts.

    2. [*]Run and hit.
      1. Specifically on 3-2 counts.

    3. [*]Send the runner

    4. [*]Bunt.

    5. [*]Go against the shift.

Keith is going to be mad when he realizes it was Doug Drabek winning the 1990 Cy Young. But I confuse him and Smiley.

I knew Drabek as well but was SURE Roy Face was the other even as I briefly thought, but then quickly rejected, Vern Law.

Turns out Face's 18-1 year was 1959 and he received ZERO CY Votes. He did, however, finish 7th in the MVP ballot.
