Los Angeles may be winning at a .600 clip, but it's not like teams aren't bringing their best when they play the Dodgers.

Braves won this afternoon so they wound up splitting that four game set with the Nationals.

Yanx lost to TBR earlier which means that four-gamer ended in a split as well ... somewhat of a moral victory for the Yanx considering how hot the Rays were coming in and how much they had dominated NYY over the past few years.

The downside for the Yanx is that this was a Gerrit Cole game [5 ER thru 5 IP] and a competitive season from them means winning all or most of his starts.

The AAA game between Durham & Norfolk was suspended last night after Durham Rays pitcher Tyler Zombro was hit in the head with a line drive. He is listed in stable condition at Duke University Madical Center.

While we're toiling away out west ...

-- Braves host the Dodgers

-- Phils host Nats

-- Marlins are in Pittsburgh (series started Thursday with a Pirate win)

-- and the Sawx are in the Bronx (guess who's on ESPN SNB this week?)

Braves started the 5th inning with a 1-0 lead and a no-hitter going (Ian Anderson).

By the time that half-inning was done, 13 batters had faced three different hurlers, seen some 80 pitches! (yes, really) over what had to be at least half an hour, the Dodgers were 8-1

After more than 2-1/2 hours in, they're just now starting the top of the 6th

Braves beat Kershaw and the Dodgers

Marlins lose their 3rd straight to Pitt

Phils beat Nats

... and the Yanx blow an early lead to lose to the Sawx

The netting protecting the 1st base side stands in Philadelphia somehow got knocked down and the game has been delayed for at least 20-30 minutes while they figure out how to houst it back up. They've got grounds crew, vendors, and maybe fans for all I know lending a hand.

The game is in the 8th with the Phils up 12-6 and the players look amused watching the effort.

3-game sweep for the rival Red Sox.

I tuned in to watch the last 3 outs. Satisfying.

Rougned Odor got called out on a pitch that was way outside that should've loaded the bases. It was as bad as some of the strike calls on pitches out of the strike zone in the Mets-Padres game on Friday, but somehow I expect this one to be treated as a MAJOR CRISIS!!!

So you're saying that the pitch to Odor had a stench to it?

I didn't stay up for the end of that one but, in reading the box score this morning, I see that, after the Odor K to end the 9th, NYY 3B coach Phil Nevin was ejected before the top of the 10th even

started and that, following a leadoff walk, bench coach Carlos Mendoza got the same, so clearly the Yanx bench wasn't happy with the call.

In the old days George would have thrown a fit (to the delight of the beat crew) and then sent game films to the Park Avenue offices claiming that the umps were "anti-Yankee".

I tell ya, Steinbrenner and Trump are so alike it's almost scary. I think they even had the same barber/colorist.

oe: just saw the clip of that called "strike" ... it was pretty brutal. 3-4 inches off the plate at least.

What an absolutely garbage call. I'm so sick of hearing about the "human element" when these humans are so often wrong. All of the umpires are Angel Hernandez with only some being various degrees better.

There are only 3 games today. I wonder if this is the lowest number of games on a day other than during Opening Week and All-Star Week.
