NL East goings on while we are (hopefully) feeding on the weak underbelly of the NL West

- Braves are in Fenway where they won the first of a two-game series on Tuesday

This brings the Braves to .500 (24-24) and just 1.0 game behind the Mets

- Nats lost a Scherzer start to the Reds 2-1, dropping the Nats to 20-24 and keeping them in the cellar though just 3 games out of 1st

- Phils (-1.5) beat the Marlins (-2.0) though Bryce Harper hits the IL

And Steven Matz beat the Yanx which is essentially what you want from Steven Matz these days.

One start after his mo-hitter, Cory Kluber left his game Tuesday with "shoulder soreness" and will miss a "significant " length of time on the IL

In Atlanta, Marcell Ozuna is IL'd with finger fractures.

Marlines beat Phils so they've split their series so far.

Braves had a lead but were in the process of giving it away when the rains came. BoSox lead 7-4 in the 7th but could still resume.

Nats leading Reds 3-0 in the 4th but they're also in a rain delay

Braves OF Marcell Ozuna is expected to miss 5-6 weeks after dislocating two fingers on his left hand.

Mind-boggling from several angles, starting with how weird it is a batter can run back toward home plate as if that's a base you can return to.

mistake

1. chasing Baez

2. Throwing to the catcher

3. Trying to tag the runner instead of Baez by the catcher

4. No one covering vacated first.

I miss any? besides the 2 throwing errors?

There are two outs. Why not just step on the bag?

I didn't realize that there were two outs when I first saw it.

But what that means is that if they had successfully throw Baez out at 1st the run Baez worked so hard to create wouldn't have counted because of the force out.

Baez himself didn't seem to realize that either as his first reaction was to celebrate the run scoring and then only ran as an afterthought hoping for icing on the cake.

That's the kind of baserunning mayhem and chaos that you'd expect Daniel Murphy to cause.

Yanx on the verge of getting swept in Detroit by the lowly (19-31 coming into the series) Tigers.

- Started Friday night by getting runners on 1std & 3rd w/one out in top 9 of a tie game ... only to see Stanton & Judge strike out

Yanx scored once in top 10 but, after Justin Wilson got 2 outs and a 3-2 count, he coughed up a walk-off 2R HR

After the game Wilson was put on the IL ... or sent to Siberia, it's unclear which.

- Lost 6-1 on Saturday

- Are down 6-0 in the 6th today

- start a series with division-leading Tampa tomorrow. Rays have won 14 of 15 (and are leading the Phils today)

One thing about playing on the west coast is that most of the other division games are in the books before you start.

- Braves beat the Nats

- Phils got stomped by the Reds

- Marlins, inexplicably, were off today, as were three other teams.

Oh yeah, and the Yanx lost again

Ozuna's assault was reportedly against his wife Genesis, and the responding officers reportedly witnessed it.

Like, the front door was open.
