The Mets have acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league lefthander Pedro Quintana, a 17-year-old Venezuelan who hadn't yet made his debut.

McKinney, who has also played for the Yankees and Blue Jays, has had some (very) modest success in his three-plus-year career as a reserve outfielder, playing left, right, and a little first. He has hit .207 / .260 / .359 / .619 this year which, you know, doesn't have to look as awful as all of that if you hold it up next Maybin and Lee's numbers.

He's gone .270 / .350 / .433 // .783 as a minor leaguer, bats and throws lefthanded, plays a little first. He was a 2013 first round pick for Oakland, starting off in center, but (clearly) has bounced around a bit. He supposedly has a really pretty swing, and he has three homers in 92 at-bats, so the Mets may be hoping to see untapped power potential.

I love this plan.

I'm excited to be a part of it.

Let's do it!

Former Brewer, MFY and, Blue Jay. Reunited with FOUR 2018 Blue Jays: Kevin Pillar, SRF, Aaron Loup, and Brandon Drury (who is a current Met). He also was on the MFYs with Drury. On the 2019 Blue Jays with Yennsy Diaz (also a current Met, it's hard to keep up).

Maybin will come along and be..almost okay maybe.

Fargas is the casualty for this move, they couldn't make it yesterday because they literally didn't have enough players healthy on the 40.

Yeah, what I didn't include when I posted this at two AM is that room is created for him on the 40 not by anybody being DFA'd or released, but by Jordan Yamamoto being moved to the 60-Day IL.

Billy's got a good looking swing. Maybe he's a hitter? I should note I'm notably terrible at scouting, so this may not be a good sign.

I'm having trouble figuring out if Billy is:

1. Jordany Valdespin. Good for a few days.

2. Mike Jacobs. Good for a few weeks.

3. Timo Perez. Good for one year.

4. Benny Agbayani. Good for a year or two.

5. Melvin Mora. Actually good.

My visual reference for him so far has been Joe Orsulak, I think. I don't want to damn him by comparing him to an over-exposed 1994 Met, but neither do I want to damn him by overexposing him. It's all hands on deck, of course over the short term, but over the middle term, I think he and Williams could make a viable platoon together.

I hope they can, anyhow.

My guess is McKinney is a Kirk Nieuwenhuis type, a sorta league averagish hitter, better at times, that will completely vanish once there's a larger sample of pitchfX for pitchers to exploit his flaws.

Though he's been pretty good, overall. His only bad times were with Toronto in 2019 (though he did well in AAA that year) and there was perhaps some batted ball bad luck mixed in. We don't have the data on 2020, and he stumbled out the gate with Milwaukee this season, but it was only 100 AB and that's 100 AB after not seeing MLB pitching sine 2019
