Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Patriots Day game today (no marathon down the street) saw the Sox Rouge jump on Lucas Giolito from the Sox Blanc for a six-spot in the 1st and cruise to an 11-4 win.The only real interesting part was Tony LaRussa going a bit rogue. Down 10-4 in the 7th with still two 'Ups' to go in Fenway, TLR essentially threw in the towel by usingtwo different position players (his DH & backup SS) to pitch the bottom 7th & 8th. Turns out they only combined to give up one run total (though a line-drive DP helped) but that just seemed to be a bit early and not THAT big a deficit to cash in your chips.Mid-week series features Braves @ Yanx (a true dilemma), Cards @ Nats (starting tonight) - Nats won 2 of 3 in StL last week but will be without Strasburg for at least 10 daysalso Giants @ Phils, Orioles @ Marlins
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 I'm into the Giants. I feel like they are a somewhat unique org that doesn't do everything that everyone else is doing, to their success or detriment. Also, good surrounding culture, broadcasting, ballpark, city etc.I used to hate them a little but that was 20 years ago and there's so many more hateable franchises today, seems like.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 That was back when you were bitter about the chick in the J.T. Snow t-shirt.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Yes famous lost thread. I wrote that with a lot of energy and in the moment, but I don't remember anything else but the thread title
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 That was a really fun post-season in 2002, even though the Angels came out on top.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 The snow chick was the Franco strikes out Bonds game in 2000, iifc
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 I think it was the 2002 post-season, because (if I recall correctly) you tried to engage by asking her if she preferred Shinjo or Marvin Bernard in center. It was only then you realized how drunk she was, and like many intoxicated folks being asked even mildly challenging questions, she got the idea that you were trying to fuck with her, and she spent the rest of the evening shooting you dirty looks or flat out telling you she didn't like you one bit.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Juan Soto to the IL. WSH is @ the Mets this weekend.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Jay Bruce, pick up the courtesy phone.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Sandy etc all looking like evil genius getting both Almora and Pillar. Soto injury and the Phils utter lack of a CF loom large
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Anybody catch Willians Astudillo taking the mound against the Angels?A reminder of baseball's roots as a leisure sport. Bugs Bunny action below:
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2021 Author Posted April 21, 2021 Like they always say: Throw strikes, Change speeds.I had forgotten, until mentioned by the announcers in that little clip, that there are now rules governing when you can and can't use position players to pitch. And since I started this week's thread with LaRussa doing it (over multiple innings) I'm wondering whether these rules limiting the use of them might wind up actually increasing the frequency as it effectively gives the manager permission to give up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2021 Author Posted April 21, 2021 Twins had almost as bad a game as we're having. After getting a 2R 'leadoff' HR in extras, they cough up 3 to the A's in the bottom half via Walk, Walk, Error, ErrorOakland has now won 11 straight after starting the season 0-6
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 Reds hit 6 HRs against the DBacks this afternoon, AND scored 3 runs in the 10th inning and still managed to lose the game.Padres & Dodgers at it again, this time for a four game set in LA starting tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 Not only is Oliver Perez still pitching, but he's doing so with a head full of gray hair.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Well at least the guy with the contract that Lindor's contract is based on is having a good week.Fernando Tatis Jr hit two HRs Friday night off of Kershaw, then two more off Trevor Bauer yesterday.Dodgers came back to win the Saturday game though after, stop me if you've heard this one, the manager decided Blake Snell needed to be removed w/one out, no one on, and a 3-2 lead in the 6th inning. Before the 6th was over the Pads were down 5-3
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 What a great time to be the Dodgers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Braves, rained out last night vs the DBacks, got 1-hit in Game One of today's make-up DH (5-0). And they liked that score so much that they coughed up a 0-5 deficit in the top of the 1st in Game Two.Now down 7-0, Madison Bumgarner (remember him?) is no-hitting Los Bravos as they go to the 7th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Acuna = KFreddie = FO-6Ozuna = FO 9So that's 0-2 w/1 hit over 14 inningsFirst ever no-no in this scheduled 7-inning game era
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Oh, and btw, the Phils lost, the Marlins lost, I heard somewhere that the Nats lost ... and the Yanx lost.So a good day for those in the Orange and BlueAnd Baltimore broke Oakland's 13 G winning streak.

They were scheduled to be seven innings long. It will be interesting to see how they are treated in the record books.Later

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2021 Author Posted April 25, 2021 Dodgers now kicking Padre butt in the 6th, 7-1, aiming to tie this series up at 2-2 after dropping the first two. The lone SDP run? ... a Fernando Tatis Jr HR, his 5th in 2-1/2 games

The lone SDP run? ... a Fernando Tatis Jr HR, his 5th in 2-1/2 gamesSo I cashed it in soon after this point and missed the Pads scoring 2 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, 2 in the 9th, and 1 more in the 11th for an 8-7 win and a 3-1 series win.And why, even with the earlier start times on SNB, did I miss this comeback? Four! Fifty! Nine! ... thats why. They were already at two-plus in the 5th.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Bonus points? Sheesh, the majority of the points I give him are for doing it against the Yankees.
