The 2018 and 2019 Met has had checked most of his boxes in his career, playing for Kentucky in the College World Series (apparently, the baseball program, like the famed hardwood team, thrives on JuCo transefers), getting drafted by the Mets, lowering his profile considerably after a PED suspension in 2015, raising it commensurately with a terrific turn in the 2017 Arizona Fall League, spending two seasons on the AAA shuttle, before getting outrighted at the end of 2019.

Tim elected free agency at the wrong time, finding no takers in 2019-2020 offseason, and left adrift as the 2020 minor league season was aborted, but he got two solid partial seasons in the Dominican Winter League in there, including the Caribbean Series, and now checks one more box, finally returning to summer ball (and effectively ending his Mets tenure) signing with the Atlantic League's Lexington Legends, who appear to like to capitalize on the modest familiarity factor of bringing in former Kentucky Wildcats.

Expected to be joining Tim Pete on the Legends this summer will be fellow sex-Mets Kevin McGowan (2017) and Rob Carson (2012-2013).

His exploits as a Met are for you to remember. I do know that he didn't cough up a lead in relief for Jacob deGrom in the 2021 opener. Let us remember that, if nothing else.

In the grand sweep of intermittent Met pitching paucity, 2018 stands out as particularly cupboard-bare. 2017, even more so, I suppose, but we're at Tim Petrson's going-away party. Tim Peterson seemed like a marginal find, half a cut above say Chris Beck, Scott Copeland and Buddy Baumann. Held the fort in that bizarre 14-inning loss to the Cubs when the Todd Frazier giveaway hoodies had to be revoked and the bullpen blew up after Tim was relieved of duty. June 2018 took off for historical infamy (5-21) and Tim eventually melted into the morass, drifting from “he's looked pretty good” to “oh, not this guy again.”

For a while I thought David Peterson was Tim Peterson. Knock wood he won't be tonight.

Me neither. If you had asked me if the Mets ever had a pitcher named "Tim Peterson" I probably would have said no.

He's from Puyallup, Washington. That's a town that sounds like it should be in Arkansas or somewhere like that. "Puyallup a chair and I'm make you some grits!"

Earned both his major league wins by throwing a scoreless tenth at home before a walkoff homer in the bottom of the inning ended things — the first by Michael Conforto against Pittsburgh, the second by Wilmer Flores over Philadelphia.

He actually had a nice run as the prospective setup man to Familia late in June of 2018. It didn't last and Familia was traded and the usual churn ensued, but Tim made a little something of his moment. Not a strictly blank page.
