Well, Tylor Megill was cruising in his debut but good ol' 1,139 just got taken deep by Ender Inciarte of all people.

When I was in 4th grade I wrote letters to all the MLB teams seeking autographs and stuff. My Twins were Rod Carew...and Geoff (I pronounced it, Gee-off) Zahn because his name seemed so exotic

I did the same thing. It was a neighborhood tradition passed down to us from the kids a few years older than us. We called it "sending away to the teams". I worked my memory and figured out that I was also in the 4th grade when I did this. I sent away to practically all the teams in all the sports. The worst teams sent you a price list and maybe a schedule. Some other teams were very generous. The 49ers sent me a media guide. The Astros gave out tons of big pictures, stickers and all kinds of Astrodome paraphenelia.

Yes. I still have that stuff somewhere. I even saved the envelopes. As I recall it I heard about how to do it from a classmate, that's why I remember 4th grade. If I'm not mistaken we found the addresses in a school library reference book, proving that libraries could be cool

The envelopes were actually the coolest things since most had logo letterhead. The Mets and Red Sox though had very businesslike stationary, you'd never know who sent you George Scott and Butch Hobson photos from the envelope, it was just an address iirc

I've done a lot of that over the years to pad out the Mets autograph collection; I even still have a few out right now. Got two guys back from the Lexington Legends a few weeks ago -- Kevin McGowan and Robert Carson.

My son did that this spring. He's only heard back from the Brewers, Padres, and White Sox. All of them said they can't send autographs through the mail but they sent some swag ranging from a postcard to a program.

I still have all ot my "swag". Maybe I'll dig it out and take a pic or two of some of it. I re-checked: I was in the 4th and 5th grades when I did this.

Apart from the first pitch, a strong debut for Cookie Carrasco, Met #1,147.

Though I'd like something besides 59 on his back. Always puts me in mind of Guillermo Mota.
