Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Was Dusty Senior a ballplayer? I see no mention of that on his Wikipedia page. My first thought had been that Dusty's dad was a Negro League player and he added the Jr. because now his father is, retroactively, a major league player. But I see no evidence that that's the case.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Sometimes, like our own Albert Almora, Jr., you wear the Jr. even if your father has no fame at all. Melvin Upton, Jr. too.It just seems notable to see it done so late in the game, after over five decades in a major league uniform.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Ronald Acuna goes by Jr. even though his pop never advanced beyond a low-level minor leaguer in the Mets system. It's become fashionable among a handful of NFL'ers with a namesake son to wear Sr. on the back of their jersey.Meanwhile ... where did that runner on 1st think he was headed in such a hurry?!?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 Lindor keeps homering, which is probably a good idea when negotiating a large contract.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 J.D. Davis also just baked up his first spring tater. If anybody can figure out how to get Jeff McNeil going, this team might be ready to go.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Corey Oz pitching the A game as the Mets visit St. Louis, trailing 1-0 after 4.Taijuan Walker is supposed to be pitching a B game, but I'm not seeing it on the schedule, so it's probably unofficial.Mets pretty much have all the first-stringers going in that A-game, with J.D. Davis DHing and Guillorme at third.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Still 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth. Mets have outhit the Cards 4-3, but they need to get one across.Scoreless single innings from Familia, Betances, and Castro, yielding just one hit and two walks among them. Blevvy on now.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Blevvy gives up 2 runs (1 earned) and the Mets lose 3-0 (with most of their starting position players in there).Yuch!Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Six o'clock-er today vs. Gnats on SNY.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Nice grab there by Nimmo. In other news spring training broadcast crews suck.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Hey, we're getting some red-hot Anthony Recker action from behind the mic!Teaming with Wayne Randazzo
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 Ed Coleman teaming with pre-pregame guy Brad Heller on the radio, emphasizing this doesn't count.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Ed Coleman teaming with pre-pregame guy Brad Heller on the radio, emphasizing this doesn't count.Ed is a good guy. I've never heard him say anything negative about anything. It is his way of saying, "don't worry. I know they look awful, but they'll get better".Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I'm sure he's nice, but but he's been the least objective Mets media personality for like twenty-five years.Mets could be on ten game losing streak and he's like, 'ya know, there was someflash there a few games back that needs to resurface itself.'
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Anthony Recker tidbit: he finished his ML career in2017 with 7 ABs for the Braves.Had he notched 2 hits in those 7 trips he would have had a .201 BA for his career. But he went 1-for-7 and wound up at .199 instead.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I don't think Tarpley is making this team.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 So I thought Recker did a good enough job in the booth. The 'back when I was playing' stuff would get old really quick but as an occasional sub he did just fine.GKR's absences are travel-quarantine-so-ready-to-go come regular season, i presume?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Freudis Nova sounds like a psychological Latin dance.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Jerry Blevins's scoreless ninth would be a poetic exit stage left, but I imagine he'd prefer to make the team if he's come this far.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Mike Montgomery giving up three in the first to the Marlins this afternoon, and I'm guessing that pretty much seals up that fifth rotation spot for David Peterson.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Down 4-0 following the Mets second error of the first inning (Almora, Lindor). Gilliam on for the Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 A Nimmo solo homer represents the only blood drawn as the Mets trail 6-1.Fammy just got touched for his second run of the spring.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 A ninth-inning homer gives the Cards a 3-3 tie and the Mets end spring training with that result and a .500 exhibition record.Strongish game for Taijuan Walker and a two-run double for Alonso.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 a .500 Spring Training is like the perfect record. It proves we can win when we want, but just enough to remind them they can lose.I'm getting more CAHNfident about this year allatime
