Mets lose their ST opener to Marlins, at least 2-0, running the bases with no particular sense of direction.

They're playing a bottom of the seventh in Jupiter to get more work in, but the game is effectively over.

Seven Mets pitchers each throw an inning, with Trever Hildenberger creating the most interesting line, striking out the side, but loading the bases in the process on two walks and a single.

He took 28 pitches to get through his workday, while Sean Reid-Foley pitched the second with just six pitches, five of them strikes.

Another interesting inning was thrown by my adoptee:(from SNY)

Thomas Szapucki allowed a bloop single to begin his outing in the fifth inning but followed by inducing a line out to right field that resulted in a double play. He then hit a batter, uncorked a wild pitch, and finished his inning by getting a strikeout looking.

Gave the fans a thrill, but probably didn't do much to enhance his chances of sticking with the big club.

Meant to ask before, did Stroman look different to anyone? Maybe in my memory I'm

conflating his face with someone else.

No Matzing around. I like the cut of his jib.

A little more
junky, but in a very,
very good
way.

I'm starting to feel like he and deGrom have very similar thought processes on pitching... it's just that they seem to differ in terms of style/taste, not just aesthetics-wise, but method-wise.

Today's game against the Cardinals is on MLBN only in the tri-state area but not live.

In one of his pressers he said his approach was to pitch according to a batter's weakness.

Jake pitches to his strength - superior stuff, and dares the batter to be able to hit it.

Attack-the-hitter versus execute-the-plan? Makes sense.

That said, Stroman's stuff can be
PLENTY nasty. (Click through for a fastball/"split change" overlay. Really.)

Mets plate three in the first following a leadoff triple by Kevin Pillar, then surrender one in the bottom of the inning.

As I typed, two more scored in the second on a fielding error. Beta-Mets lead 5-1.
That error was by Austin Dean at Roger Dean Stadium.

The Cards have torn back against Eickoff and Jacob Barnes and now lead 7-5 after three.

BET YOU'RE MISSING BRAD BRACH NOW, SANDY!!

And now it's 10-6.

Two of the three runs were unearned, but still, not a strong inning for The Great Rock 'n' Roll Windle.

Crow-Armstrong, Mauricio, Vientos, Alvarez ... the Mets 2024 lineup is all getting their chances today.
