G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Mets lose their ST opener to Marlins, at least 2-0, running the bases with no particular sense of direction. They're playing a bottom of the seventh in Jupiter to get more work in, but the game is effectively over.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Seven Mets pitchers each throw an inning, with Trever Hildenberger creating the most interesting line, striking out the side, but loading the bases in the process on two walks and a single. He took 28 pitches to get through his workday, while Sean Reid-Foley pitched the second with just six pitches, five of them strikes.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Another interesting inning was thrown by my adoptee:(from SNY) Thomas Szapucki allowed a bloop single to begin his outing in the fifth inning but followed by inducing a line out to right field that resulted in a double play. He then hit a batter, uncorked a wild pitch, and finished his inning by getting a strikeout looking.Gave the fans a thrill, but probably didn't do much to enhance his chances of sticking with the big club.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Author Posted March 2, 2021 A Mets game is about to begin on SNY.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Meant to ask before, did Stroman look different to anyone? Maybe in my memory I'm conflating his face with someone else.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Well, his blonde braids are sure new.A McNeil homer represents the first Mets run of the spring.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 No doubter from a very shaggy McNeil.Yamamoto just threw an inning
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Blevins coming in, also wearing his hair long and curly

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Curly does a good job working his way out of first and second, with no outs.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 We should be applauding the triumphant return of Ceetar
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Big Blonde Dark Horse Sam McWilliams in and out of trouble, gets the "save"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Yeah, we're 1-0 in the era of Ceetar 2.0.

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Meant to ask before, did Stroman look different to anyone? Maybe in my memory I'm conflating his face with someone else.A little more junky, but in a very, very good way.I'm starting to feel like he and deGrom have very similar thought processes on pitching... it's just that they seem to differ in terms of style/taste, not just aesthetics-wise, but method-wise.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Today's game against the Cardinals is on MLBN only in the tri-state area but not live.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 My main takeaway from watching yesterday's game is that Lindor looks really good in a Mets uniform.

Jake pitches to his strength - superior stuff, and dares the batter to be able to hit it.LaterAttack-the-hitter versus execute-the-plan? Makes sense. That said, Stroman's stuff can be PLENTY nasty. (Click through for a fastball/"split change" overlay. Really.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Mets plate three in the first following a leadoff triple by Kevin Pillar, then surrender one in the bottom of the inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 As I typed, two more scored in the second on a fielding error. Beta-Mets lead 5-1.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 The Cards have torn back against Eickoff and Jacob Barnes and now lead 7-5 after three.BET YOU'RE MISSING BRAD BRACH NOW, SANDY!!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 And now it's 10-6.Two of the three runs were unearned, but still, not a strong inning for The Great Rock 'n' Roll Windle.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Crow-Armstrong, Mauricio, Vientos, Alvarez ... the Mets 2024 lineup is all getting their chances today.
