Not conceding the division to the Dodgers, that's for sure. Padres' farm is so deep they can pull off a trade like this. They're going to be a fun team to watch next year.

(Given their priorities, I'd imagine Kiermeier is probably available for a song; he's still excellent defensively, and he might not be a terrible backup plan, should Springer things fall through and FA money goes elsewhere.)

What a get for the Pads. Patiño looks to have the goods, but he isn't even the cream of the Pads farm system, and poor Mejia hasn't shown much at the MLB level at all. I think I might've hoped for a bigger haul for a 28-year old ace on a team-friendly deal.

The Rays needed to make room on their 40 for the trade haul, so traded LH reliever Jose Alvarado to the Philles in 3-way action with the Dodgers, who get Garrett Cleavinger from the Phils and sent over a minor league infielder and PTBNL to Tampa.



Alvarado has been pretty OK.

Trade action between two of baseball's smartest teams. Maybe the Mets'll join their ranks now that BVW (how pathetic) got the axe and Sandy isn't under Jeff's thumbs anymore. How humiliating that must've been. It's like when the CDC had to answer to that scumbag fraud Ivanka.
