bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 It's the first of four games against some of the worst people in Washington, DC that don't work in the White House or the Senate. The players whined about a lack of attention in Spring Training (they share a facility with HOU which was obviously a big story) and their fans have not stopped. It's also their first road games of this weird season: they were supposed to go to MIA but that trip was postponed and they were supposed to go to Toronto but they don't want Americans there (which is putting a crimp in my younger son's social life as he is dating a nice young lady from the Toronto area) so the Blue Jays were the "home team" for two games in the AA-level ballpark known as Nationals Park. I hope that their Amtrak from Union Station to Penn Station was with many people talking loudly on their cell phones.Patrick Corbin goes for WSH (LHP, https://www.mlb.com/player/patrick-corbin-571578https://www.mlb.com/player/patrick-corbin-571578). Corbin is from Clay, NY. Where is Clay? There are at least two of us that might know. Per Wikipedia: "Clay is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 58,206, making it Syracuse's largest suburb. The town was named after American attorney and statesman Henry Clay. Clay is north of Syracuse, New York."Steven Matz will be on the mound for the Mets (LHP, https://www.mlb.com/player/steven-matz-571927https://www.mlb.com/player/steven-matz-571927). This is a re-match of WSH's 5-3 win last Tuesday. Neither pitcher distinguished himself but Matz was worse. Corbin gave up 3 ER and 8 H in 5 2/3 innings (HR by Conforto). Matz gave up 5 ER and 7 H in 3 IP (HRs by Howie Kendrick and Josh Harrison). Matz's inconsistency is consistently maddening. The Mets need him to mature and step up right now with injuries to Syndergaard, Stroman, and Wacha depleting the rotation.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I like Luis Rojas. I like what I hear from him, mostly. But I think the answer to your question is very much the same as the answer to so many questions in the early Terry Collins era — because the manager is more in a development mindset than a win-the-day mindset.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I'd start a Matz Suckz thread but you already know that

Corbin went to Cicero North Syracuse High School, which is about a 20 minute drive and where Fboy has taken multiple summer volleyball camps. There is also a Henry Clay Blvd in close proximity to my home.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Now 7-0. I'll be watching some Netflix. Sorry, fellers, but this is just too much to endure on a Monday.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Matz does not appear to be bringing a whole lot of answers. Franklyn may be a Kilome, but Matz is a kill-a-me!THANKYOUVERYMUCHGOODNIGHT!!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Author Posted August 10, 2020 At season's end, it might be time for the Mets to sever ties with Matz:https://twitter.com/TimBritton/status/1292983022501928962https://twitter.com/TimBritton/status/1292983022501928962
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I swear my wife predicted before pitch one that this would be a 14-0 score.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Asdrubal Cabrera now has more extra-base hits in this game than Pete Alonso has had all season.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Embarrassing Debacles for $1,000 please, Alex.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Author Posted August 10, 2020 If I have this correctly, Cabrera wanted to return to the Mets but Brodie wanted Lowrie (a former client) so Cabrera went to Texas where he was released mid-season. When the Mets called, he declined because they didn't want him in the winter so he went to Washington (the Mets signed Joe Panik) and became a champion.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Luis Guillorme has passed J.D. Davis on the pitching depth chart!
