From MLB Trade Rumors.

The predictions themselves aren't worth that much, but it's a good way of keeping track of who is available and what the price tag might be. They're not that high on the Mets, predicting Craig Stammen (#35) and Ivan Nova (#48). They predict Wheeler to the Phillies, and both Nats big guys returning to Washington.

Let's hope that these guys are completely wrong.

Yeah I'd trade our new manager for 5 years of Wheeler

Didn't we... already trade our new manager for five years of Wheeler? Would seem silly to do that AGAIN.

The funny thing about those predictions is that the only win they predict for the Yankees is re-signing Brett Gardner.

Yeah, I wouldn't put much stock in any of the predictions themselves. Just a way to keeping track of who's out there and what their price tags might be.

For instance, I had no idea who Will Smith was. But now I'm thinking he could be a great fit. QO though.

I'm thinking that Wheeler doesn't take the QO, but I'm also thinking that he should. I wouldn't bank on the market improving much from last year, and he'd be asking teams to invest a multiyear deal plus a draft pick in mostly unrealized upside. Plus, taking the QO last offseason will pay off quite nicely for Ryu this offseason.

Will Smith almost has to take the QO. His resumé isn't close to Kimbrel's, and we saw how that worked out. He shouldn't be the only one, but to this point the players have been stubborn with it.

The league knew what they were doing by laying off of Kimbrel, though. His 2019 was so bad that Edwin Diaz is all, "Man, at least I'm not him."

Taking the QO also allows Wheeler (or any of these guys for that matter) to be a FA next year at which point they CANT be QO'd again. That would lead, theoretically at least, to a more open market to play in

since there would no longer be draft pick compensation in the mix. It's going to depend on the circumstances obviously. There's always going to be the injury risk to consider and a guy like Rendon is going to

cash in as he's at the peak of his earning potential now. But some of the younger guys may see the QO status as a kind of strategy to be played, at least until the CBA changes the rules down the line. It'll also

depend on how good their agents are at getting a sniff into what teams are thinking years & dollar wise.
