Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 From MLB Trade Rumors.https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/11/mlb-free-agent-predictions-2020.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/11/mlb-free-agent-predictions-2020.htmlThe predictions themselves aren't worth that much, but it's a good way of keeping track of who is available and what the price tag might be. They're not that high on the Mets, predicting Craig Stammen (#35) and Ivan Nova (#48). They predict Wheeler to the Phillies, and both Nats big guys returning to Washington.Let's hope that these guys are completely wrong.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Yeah I'd trade our new manager for 5 years of Wheeler
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Do we think that there's any chance that Zack takes the QO?

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Yeah that's what I'm referencing and I'd do it again
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 The funny thing about those predictions is that the only win they predict for the Yankees is re-signing Brett Gardner.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Dellin Betances is 32?Feels like he's one of those guys who should be younger.

Just a way to keeping track of who's out there and what their price tags might be.For instance, I had no idea who Will Smith was. But now I'm thinking he could be a great fit. QO though.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 I have to wonder if the misadventures last year of Keuchel and Kimbrell might make players more likely to accept a QO, especially since it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 I'm thinking that Wheeler doesn't take the QO, but I'm also thinking that he should. I wouldn't bank on the market improving much from last year, and he'd be asking teams to invest a multiyear deal plus a draft pick in mostly unrealized upside. Plus, taking the QO last offseason will pay off quite nicely for Ryu this offseason. Will Smith almost has to take the QO. His resumé isn't close to Kimbrel's, and we saw how that worked out. He shouldn't be the only one, but to this point the players have been stubborn with it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 The league knew what they were doing by laying off of Kimbrel, though. His 2019 was so bad that Edwin Diaz is all, "Man, at least I'm not him."
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Taking the QO also allows Wheeler (or any of these guys for that matter) to be a FA next year at which point they CANT be QO'd again. That would lead, theoretically at least, to a more open market to play insince there would no longer be draft pick compensation in the mix. It's going to depend on the circumstances obviously. There's always going to be the injury risk to consider and a guy like Rendon is going to cash in as he's at the peak of his earning potential now. But some of the younger guys may see the QO status as a kind of strategy to be played, at least until the CBA changes the rules down the line. It'll also depend on how good their agents are at getting a sniff into what teams are thinking years & dollar wise.
