G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Seems worth its own thread to note, per Jon Heyman, Ruben Tejada has been sent for from Syracuse or wherever Syracuse is currently as the just-in-case contingency for Jeff McNeil's right hamstring.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Good thing we whacked Adeiny so Rubes can have his #11 back
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Yup, but the "If not Altherr, who?" question remains on the table. This team better pitch like gangbusters, because I think we've seen them at their best offensively, they are out of players (save for maybe Dilson and René Rivera), and we're not likely to see anybody new.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2019 Author Posted August 14, 2019 Ruben becomes the 50th Recidivist Met in franchise history tonight, the fourth whose initial "final" game came in the postseason. His absence of 606 regular-season Mets games (619, including the postseason) is the 30th-longest among Mets who boomeranged back. He's the third RM this season and the twelfth since 2015.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 Ruben's route takes him out of town. He's been DFA'd and non-infielder Chris Flexen has been recalled, presumably as a pitcher.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Well, it was nice seeing him again. At least his last game as a Met won't be the one in which Chase Utley broke his leg.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Ruben becomes the 50th Recidivist Met in franchise history tonight, the fourth whose initial "final" game came in the postseason. That's a good trivia question - re: who the other three are.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Yes, Kelly Johnson would be one. I'm very stumped over who the others might be. I had been thinking Todd Zeile, but I don't think that's right.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Izzy still around then?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 My son just happened to mention Roger Cedeno, and I thought he might be the 1999 guy.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Roger is indeed also one. Third one is a real stumper.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 Johnson could have finished two terms in the playoffs, but Terry didn't use him in the Wild Card Game. The last Recidivist Met's second term lasted about as long as Tejada's.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2019 Author Posted August 31, 2019 While we were all enjoying Gwreck's Tejada-inspired quizzes, Ruben was being released.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 Ruben played for Syracuse in their not at all foreshadowy finale, having re-signed as a minor league free agent after all.
