Cubs get 1st & 2nd/none-out in their half of the 7th ... don't score.

btw, the Cubs have a Wick and a Wieck (apparently also pronounced WICK) in their relief corps, and both have pitched in this game.

Does that mean they've been ... Wait for it! ... burning the candle at both ends today?

Wieck is a lefty (which is I guess how they tell them apart) and was originally drafted by the Mets (7th round - 2014)

And in the top of the 8th, the Cards get 2nd & 3rd w/one out ... and they don't score.

btw, 2-1 game, not yet into the bottom of the 8th, and already well over 3 hours.

One of the biggest problems is having to rely on help from the Pirates down the stretch.

They've now not only lost seven straight but are being out-scored 73-22 over that time!

And those numbers don't even include tonight's game which they're currently losing as well.

And after they finish up this set with the Brewers they have three with the Cubs starting on Tuesday.

The Pirates' second half has been an epic steamrolling — from a 41-45 first half that saw them ahead of some of the teams now bucking for the Wild Card, to a 21-45 homestretch that has me suspecting they decided to play with ankle weights to get into better shape.

Feh! The Pirates should be disbanded.

They're down 4-0 to the Brewers in the seventh. They don't even put up a decent fight.

In a bit of brilliant scheduling, the allegedly ready for prime time Browns were moved to Sunday night, making the Indians an easy StubHub ticket this evening. So I'll be biking downtown to watch the Tribe beat the Phillies, helping both themselves and the Mets.

A continued National collapse would boost our slim hopes, but they have five upcoming games against the Phils, so we also need the Phils to lose a few against other teams.

Way to represent. We need a forum delegate at all relevant games.

The Phils may be our best phriends right now. Unlike the Mets, and despite being a game and a half behind the Mets, they still control their fates to a meaningful extent, going into a five-game series with Washington.

If the Phils somehow sweep, they'll pull within a game of DC going into their final series, so they are one motivated pack of ponies.
