Guest 41Forever Guests Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Have you ever seen "Miami Connection?" It's one of those "so bad, it's good!" movies and has gained some cult status through the RiffTrax mocking. Nutshell: Group of friends go to University of Central Florida (which is not in Miami), all live together, play in a band and practice a lot of kung fu. There are bad guys with drugs and a subplot about connecting with a missing father. I'm not sure there was a script. I'm not sure these people were actually actors. Here's one of the band's songs, about how it's fun to be friends. A funny slice of 1980s music.Anyway, the Mets are in Miami, which is like a home game, in a stadium that has been Jeter-fied into blandness playing team that thought it was a good idea to have black letters on a black jersey. Some people like the scoreboard.Jason Vargas, 3-4, 3.77, continues his surprising stretch of not being too bad and scaring reporters. Miami is opposing with Caleb Smith, who has slightly better line, 4-4, 3.50, but with shorter, less curly hair.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Looks like a great John Oates vehicle.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Hey, men and women, we're a few innings in here. These Marlins blue-on-black tops aren't going to last beyond the season, are they?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 We gotta quit scoring runs ... it only causes our pitchers to give up more in the next half.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Rosario going off-book by making a tough play in the hole. These guys need to be reminded that they're the Marlins.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Feels like 4th place @ 5th place out there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 This game is really dull and not all that well played ... but at least it's slow.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Boy did Derek Jeter fuck up that stadium. Those ads on the outfield walls are just wrong. I know, I know. Youse are thinking that you could say that about any old outfield walls. But Marlins Stadium's walls were different. They weren't designed for ads. Those walls were designed to present as a solid ribbon of uncluttered green going from line to line. Jeter just fucked up the architect's cohesive design vision for that stadium. I wouldnt say the same for Citi Field what with Jeff Wilpon's meddling, is a childish hodgepodge mishmash of mismatched parts.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 (edited) The Marlins have 6 hits plus a walk.Four of those hits were in a six batter span in the 3rd inning, and now the other two plus the lone walk come consecutively here in the 6th.Mets have 3 hits plus 5 walks but the only inning with multiple runners was the 3rd where they managed to wedge a BiDP in the middleso as to ensure the run total would be at the lowest possible amount.Getting out-HR'd 3-0 and out-XBH'd 4-0 isn't helping either. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Getting thunked by a team with 2016 lefty Mets batters Curtis Granderson and Neil Walker. I wanna see Alejandro De Aza or GtFO.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Not participating in the HR Derby clearly messed up McNeil's whole approach.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Yeah, and it ain't good. Seven to two. Them.Chris Conroy has been punching Mets out on pitches above the nipples all night.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 And of course, Alonso goes down chasing that high cheese.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Mazza blowing his chance at being named closer.I think he was the leading candidate after his first inning tonight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Phil Regan: "Listen, I'm going to pass on something my coach, the great Satchel Paige, told me."Chris Mazza: "Are you fucking with me?"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Also, my takeaway from this game is that Pete Alonso participating in the Home Run Derby has really messed up Jeff McNeil's swing.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Years later and Cesar Puello still lookin' artificially jacked.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Two-run homer by Frazier and hopefully the Mets pulling within four is more relevant than Todd raising his trade profile.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 John Oates, fans of his, look-alike-wannabees of Oateness are banned.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 A 400-foot out to end it.They looked so directionless, you'd think Mickey was still managing.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Listened on XM in transit around town and then stomached a few later innings at home. They are fugly out there.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 So, you'd think, after four days off, you can pitch whoever you want. Why ever would somebody pick Vargas? Why ever would somebody with his back against it pick Vargas?
