Sigh. Dave will depart our tracking exercise now, as 33rd HR in Game 134 kind of kills the mood.

Well, that was the most overmatched three batters the Mets have sent to the plate this season, with all due respect to early-season Travis d'Arnaud.

Alonso surpassed Hundley's pace with his 9th home run. He and Beltran were close until his 14th home run. Only the drought made it a little close recently between Pete and Todd.

I think that's over now, but let's get those home runs hit before repainting the apple a bright shade of Polar Bear ivory.

Refresh my memory...was 2006 the year Beltran hurt himself running into the wall in Houston, right around Labor Day? And his power suffered the rest of the year?

I want to see Alonso break the club record for two reasons:

1. The Mets club record for homers is very low on the list, ahead of only the Royals, based on a list I found from 2017. (See below.)

2. I don't want Todd Hundley and his obviously steroid-enhanced season to continue to be the record holder. I remember how much I wanted Beltran to break that record in 2006.

SFG Barry Bonds 73 2001

STL Mark McGwire 70 1998

CHC Sammy Sosa 66 1998

NYY Roger Maris 61 1961

PHI Ryan Howard 56 2006

The Royals record is now 38. Mike Moustakas broke Balboni's mark in 2017. Jorge Soler already has 35 for this year's Royals so Moustakas' record is in jeopardy.

Also, Marlins record is now 59. Giancarlo Stanton in 2017.

Here's the updated list. I knew that the Mets were low on the list but didn't realize until today that they were in 29th place. Hopefully they'll move up a few notches this season.

I'm surprised by the Royals being so low. Is Kaufmann that much of a pitchers' park, or did the Royals just not develop any sluggers?

I realize it's a typo, but I really like renaming the St. Louis club the “Cadinals,” for they are truly Cads.
