G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Great idea to keep the Yearbook Cover Derby up to date.2019: Talk about a bet-hedger. You were just blessed with one of the greatest pitching seasons in modern baseball history and instead of truly spotlighting the pitcher (a la Seaver and the 200-strikeout record in 1975), you position as him first among a bushel of equals. Yay, deGrom is in the foreground, but, oh, we have to get portions of ten other guys in there because we're marketing the whole team, not just our best player. I'd guess this had something to do with not wanting to present deGrom heroically across the entire season in case negotiations went awry (don't know what the publication deadline was), but it's not like his Cy Young didn't already happen and they didn't schedule a celebratory bobblehead for it. I sort of dug the multiple player treatment in 2016 because it was a team effort to win the pennant but this mostly feels like nobody wants to pick a side or alienate any possible purchaser. "We need to satisfy the Wilson Ramos customers."1967 can rest easy for another season.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Is that really the cover? With half faces and three headless Mets across the top?It kinda reminds me of the Mike Wazowski magazine cover from Monsters Inc.http://i.imgur.com/l6rX6mx.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/l6rX6mx.png>

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 The only noteworthy omission is Cespedes, and it's understandable.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Good to see all who were intended to be presented in full. Still think they should have Jaked it.

I can only assume Marc Levine took each of these portraits, and frankly, they're horrible. Shot with too wide of a lens so the curvature makes their stomachs bow out, and Thor's head looks just odd...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Yeah, McNeil looks more than a little bell-shaped. I had to stare for a bit to figure out it was him.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 How did McNeil get in the second row? Matz and Familia are prolly pissed off
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 50th anniversary of 1969 would have been a decent theme, too.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 If you keep staring at Ramos, his arms get beefier.
