Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 So Alonso could very well be in 3rd place (and almost certainly in 4th at worst) before the end of his second season despite having played in just two of the twelve seasons of the stadium.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 If I set the under/over at 40 for Alonso's 2020 HR total. what do you take?Me, I take the under.(And if I'm not betting a lot of money, I'd hope to be wrong.)
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Sophomore jinx. But if he hits, say, 38 or so, I won't be surprised. They'll try to pitch him differently, and I expect he'll be pitched around quite a bit. Important to have a good power bat behind him ready to clean up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 And if half-ish of those 40-ish come at home it'll put him in 4th place for stadium history just a few behind Wright. Slightly more than 40, and/or with a better H/R mix, and he moves into 3rd.Either way, as long as we don't hear a sentence starting with -- 'and in a striking similarity to the injury Yeonis Cespedes suffered, Pete Alonso was placed today on ...' -- at some point next year, 4th place is all-time is about the worst he'll wind up in despite not being there for nearly 85% of the stadium's history.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 How awesome is Pete. We're saying to ourselves "Man, what if he only hits 38 next year?"
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 It's the sophomore jinx, but also, more than that. It's the so obviously juiced ball.
