G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 (edited) Michael Cuddyer went into the Twins HOF in 2017. I initially misread a "this date in Twins history" as a current thing, but let's continue to enjoy Cuddy's good fortune. Edited January 28, 2019 by Guest
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 Dillon Gee, most recently a Chunichi Dragon, calls it a career.

Guest 41Forever Guests Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 A former Opening Day starter who had a nice career. In all, Gee will retire with a career 51-48 record, a 4.09 ERA, 6.5 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and 1.2 HR/9 over the life of 853 2/3 Major League innings. Though he'll retire at a relatively young age, Gee still did quite well for himself in baseball, taking home north of $13MM in player salaries — a sum that most 21st-round selections can scarcely fathom. And, a fairly funny bit on the MLB Man Cave.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 Gee was on the DL in 2014, making him fair game for Jay Horwitz to drag him over to our Blogger Night group for a brief quasi-media scrum. This was the season when no Mets pitcher had gotten a hit for more than a month into the season, a streak that was either ended by rookie deGrom or at least put into stark relief by his early success as a hitter. I asked Dillon a lighthearted question about Jake maybe giving the other pitchers a couple of pointers. Dillon's response regarding the pitchers' hitting to that point:"We suck."He wasn't smiling. I appreciated that.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Interesting story. (And I guess I can cross Liddell of the list of guys I'm going to be able to add to my autographed card collection.)
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Cool Lidell story and nice that they had the video. He was acquired in the famous Ed Lynch Trade
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 It's a pretty cool story across the board.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 “That's bullshit!” he said, watching it. “I was batting .178 in Tidewater!"
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 Jay Horwitz's Amazin' Mets Alumni Podcast, always enchanting, is particularly awesome in its last two iterations, wherein Jay speaks with Doug Flynn and Craig Swan. True Metnip.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2019 Author Posted April 26, 2019 Mets' attempt to raise their alumni profile continues this weekend with Jon Matlack and Neil Allen haunting Citi Field this weekend (Turk Wendell and Rick Reed were on hand last homestand).
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 This weekend's alumni guests are Doug Flynn and Joel Youngblood, signing autographs in the team HOF from 5:30 to 6:30.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2019 Author Posted June 7, 2019 This weekend's in-house alums — the Original Frank Thomas (though I wouldn't put it past the Mets to have mistakenly brought in the White Sox slugger)...and thread namesake Rico Brogna!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 Nolan Ryan won't be joining his 1969 teammates at Citi Field on June 29, according to Steve Marcus of Newsday. Also unable to reunite will be Al Weis, Ken Boswell, Gary Gentry and coach Joe Pignatano, along with, as we already learned, Tom Seaver.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 As well as Tug McGraw, Tommie Agee, Donn Clendenon, Cal Koonce, Ed Charles ...But hey, Krane and Harrelson will make it, and that's certainly not nothing.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 I think we were clear on the posthumous RSVP situation.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2019 Author Posted July 5, 2019 Tonight's featured alumni at Citi Field: Jack Fisher and Felix Millan. They could've sat on their 1969 laurels, but they keep the beloved Mets of yore comin'. Other than killing Gosger and Hudson, nice job, Metsies.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Author Posted July 25, 2019 Ron Hunt has taken too many lickings, but keeps on ticking. They find smiles amid the pain, because that's all they can do. Ron and Jackie, who met as teenagers at Ritenour High School, have been married since 1961. Two years later, Ron made his major league debut and soon made his living getting hit by pitches. He got hits, too — a .273 lifetime average in 12 years – but Ron Hunt was famous for getting plunked. He set a seemingly unbreakable mark when he was hit by pitches 50 times in one year.He retired after 243 HBPs, some even to the head. Tom Seaver beaned him good once. Combined with innumerable concussions from a football past and, well, “I have Parkinson's now,” Ron said. It's possible he could've gotten the neurodegenerative disorder regardless. But a doctor told the Hunts that it could've resulted from injuries during his playing days.Ron's hand tremors. He's hard to understand at times. He takes a physical therapy class involving boxing because, Jackie said, “they're trying to get your feet to work with your hands again.”And he falls a lot. A couple weeks ago, a particular tumble scared Jackie because Ron was “upside down,” she said. “His head was down and his legs were up.”“My life's a (expletive) now,” Ron said Wednesday from their home in Wentzville.https://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/benjamin-hochman/hochman-st-louisan-former-mlb-star-hunt-still-taking-some/article_bf62599c-c08b-5615-b0cf-ff64b8007812.htmlhttps://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/benjamin-hochman/hochman-st-louisan-former-mlb-star-hunt-still-taking-some/article_bf62599c-c08b-5615-b0cf-ff64b8007812.html
