Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Midnight Badness has a better picture, better overall design, better headline, and was more indicative of the season it chronicles. VOTE FOR BADNESS! #TeamBadness
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I agree about design, headline, and better indicative of the season. But not the picture. The Wright picture is nice. The only drawback is that Jack Renheimer is behind him and not, say, Conforto.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I feel like this is the real final here, these are the two best covers left IMO.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 The only drawback is that Jack Renheimer is behind him and not, say, Conforto.This. Jack Renheimer should not be commerated for all time on the winning cover.Prospects. Journeymen. Legends. Obscurities. Future Hall of Famers. Former All-Stars. Players who had won awards. Players who were winning awards. Ring-wearers from elsewhere. Thirty-four catchers who caught Met pitchers. Fifty-one pitchers who recorded Met saves. Forty-two third basemen who followed the trail he blazed to the Met hot corner. Twenty-four men who were on the Met roster he joined July 21, 2004. Three-hundred thirty-one men who'd thereafter attach themselves to the Met roster he was a part of, he was the center of, he would work his spine off to return to before September 30, 2018. Accepting the definition of teammate as anybody who was a Met while David Wright played, healed, rehabilitated, strived and captained as best he could, nearly a third of everybody who has ever played for the New York Mets has been a teammate to David Wright. And David Wright was a teammate to every one of them...even Jack Reinheimer. It's funny that we get to hang out here on a message board with Greg. It's like having LeBron James as one of your buddies and he plays in your pickup games that you have in the driveway. Usually he just fucks around dribbling with one hand and holding a beer in the other, but then once in a while he does some crazy spin dunk and you're like "oh right, he's LeBron James". Oh right. That's Greg from FAFIF.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Did anyone really cry at DW's final appearance? I was sad myself, but I also couldn't shake that part of me who also knew how manufactured an event the last appearance was; manufactured in part so as to generate the kind of back-page populist win you folks are now stroking them back for! It's a Fake News circle jerk!VOTE FOR BADNESSSSSSSS!!!!11
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I had written Wright off two years before that last game. You think the Red Sox would've kept third base in limbo for two years, what with the lethal offensive production a big market team has the right to expect from that position? What a pathetic franchise this is under the Wilpons.

Sure it was manufactured, but a huge part of that manufacturing was not for us, but so that broken man could trot around in a fresh uni on perfect grass in front of a packed house one last time. How many times in life do we get a heads up that something's going to be over and then get to acknowledge the ending while it's happening?! It was a circle jerk! OF EMOTION!

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Where would you rather have had Jack Reinheimer at that moment -- in the field?

After a two-year string of updates about what he was doing to get there and how his return was always beyond the horizon, to see him finally walk to the plate and be the player we lived with for so many seasons was to be emotionally gratified. If the farewell was manufactured, it was about time the Mets made something beautiful. The only thing I don't love about the Wright back page is the awkward phrase "waves farewell," as if we don't see he's waving.Alternate headline that I think would have fit logistically and spiritually (with maybe a touch of kerning):HOME FANSBID CAP ADIEULast night for Wrightbrings out crowdfor fondestfarewell
