RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 The Mets dealt Plawecki to Cleveland in exchange for right-hander Walker Lockett and minor league infielder Sam Haggerty. Lockett was 0-3 with 9.60 ERA for the Padres last year. What's very noticeable this year is that with all the deals the Mets made this off-season (except for Cano), nothing about them leaked. The first anything was mentioned was when the deal was announced.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Seems like more of a salary dump than anything else, but he just never distinguished himself enough to be missed.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Haggerty draws a ton of walks, but he'll need to hit more to keep that up at higher levels. It will not be for good reasons if we see much of Lockett.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Seems like the Mets had a busy weekend , I hardly pay attention to some of these moves
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 BVW: This guy Lockett that you're offering, tell me about him.Chernoff: Great guy. You'll love him.BVW: Wow, um. 9.60 ERA in the show. Was he good in the minors?Chernoff: No. No he wasn't.BVW: Does he throw hard?Chernoff: Not really.BVW: Is he young? Chernoff: You know, 25 is like the new 18.BVW: Is he left-handed?Chernoff: Nope.BVW: I think I've heard enough. You got yourself a deal buddy!Chernoff: I'm so glad the Mets hired you.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 With Harvey and now Plawecki gone, who's gonna be there to give and get the big black dildo?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Just to be clear, the Mets have attained a pitcher named "Walker."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I'm already conflating Walker Lockett with Gasoline Alley's Walt Wallet.

I guess what Brodie is doing here is addressing the rap that the Mets' farm is too "bottom heavy" by rebalancing the amount of near-ready and not-ready guys. The Indians were pretty much doing the same thing when they acquired Lockett from San Diego for a longer-horizoned pitching prospect Ignacio Feliz. That trade was made just ahead of clubs locking the rosters for Rule 5 so it's assumed Lockett would have been left unprotected by San Diego.Lockett is a big dude at 6-5, 225 and perhaps can grow into Bobby Wahl someday.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 My impression is that Lockett may turn out to be the sixth or seventh starter, when needed.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I just think it's cool that he made it to the bigs with a name that suggests he can't throw a strike.Plus, he was born in 1994, so I'm going to be real disappointed if he doesn't have a fraternal twin brother named "Texas Ranger."
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 My wife and I wanted another boy so we could name him Nolan.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 You could have named the girl "Meg." Or better yet, "Hope."

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 There's probably at least some harm in a player showing up in camp after a winter of rumours that describe him as being shopped.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I think they were no good.Rumors make ballplayers cry.
