Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I could wear that, my birthday is next month...Shouldn't it be mets' fan or have I been punctuating it wrong on the internet for the last two decades?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Well, there's no capitals either. But I've never used an apostrophe.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I see "Mets" in the phrase "Mets fan" as an adjective, which would not require an apostrophe. However, I guess if you see it as meaning "a fan who belongs to the Mets" then the apostrophe would be appropriate.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 i'm a mets fani'm a knicks fani'm a jazz fani'm a heat fani'm a thunder fani'm a peanut butter and jelly fannear as i can tell, the apostrophe doesn't belong in any of them. the lack of capitalization is embarrassing tho
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 "peanut-butter-and-jelly fan" should be hyphenated.I love how a picture of a t-shirt turns, immediately, into a discussion of grammar.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I'm a Mets fan who sometimes goes to the Mets' ballpark to watch the Mets game, toward the end of which I find myself hoping none of the Mets' relievers blows it.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I concur with G-Fafif's apostrophe distribution.

It's an adjectival use. The Mets don't own you, so it's not possessive.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 I'll wear it at the end of the season. If I survive, that is.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 That shirt will make less sense in November, after the Mets have just completed the most improbable championship comeback in history.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I'm going to do my part. Tomorrow I'm leaving for South America. Hopefully that will work as well as it did in 2015.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I'm going further south this time, if that helps.
