Note the start time, something I believe the Mets requested so as to have a full 48 hours to recover from the upcoming long flight to Philadelphia for the series there starting on Friday.
Plus Jeff was able to plan ahead and get good rates on the plane and hotels by booking early and off-peak.
Actually, the Reds are headed to the west coast -- game in LA on Thursday -- and the new rules dictate that long travel and no off day in between must be preceded by a day game ... but, around here, we don't let little things like facts get in the way of a good story

Zach Wheeler vs Sal Romano

I suspect many of us remember someone named Sal Romano from back in the old neighborhood.
And seeing as how he was born in Syosset L.I. and went to HS in Southington, CT, some of us may even remember THIS Sal Romano from back in the old neighborhood.

Good ol' Sal made his ML debut with a couple of spot starts in 2017 and then got the full-time gig in July where he's been spectacularly adequate ever since [7-11, 4.38; 1.44] across 23 total ML starts.
Southington HS also produced ML'ers Rob Dibble and Carl Pavano so, in addition to trying establish himself in the major leagues, Sal will also try to become the first pitcher from SHS not to be a total asshole.

Unrelated to today's game: do the players have a choice to go back to New York so they can have two nights in their own bed (or a favored bed) rather two nights at the Hampton Inn or do they have to stay together?

Also: Blevins is on baby watch so the Mets might be without their only bullpen lefthander for a few days.

I suspect they're required to travel together but, once in Philly, I doubt there's anyone stopping them from either renting a car or having the WAG pick them up and drive up the NJT for a day and a half before turning back around.
iow, I think MLB has put their 'bed check' days behind them. But if one of them wanted to fly directly to NYC he'd probably need permission and a good reason behind it, and then he'd have to pay for it himself.

I know it's very likely wrong, but I feel like it's Florrie's first start against a righthander this season.

From Healey of Newsday:

Yoenis Cespedes has been playing hurt, Mickey Callaway said. His right hamstring issue has affected mobility and cost the Mets on defense the past couple of days.

Hip to quad to hamstring. May he still be mobile by next week.

So they're playing a man short in the event that The Pointer is healthy for the next game which is two days from now. Just DL him now, get a body up and move on... except that the game is starting soon, Vegas is not next door, and Sandy likely didn't think of this last night.

Healey issues correction:

Yoenis Cespedes has been playing hurt, Mickey Callaway said. His right QUAD** issue has affected mobility and cost the Mets on defense the past couple of days. (**fixed body part)

There are some who would say that a clean bill of health and return to the roster would be bad news.

I think this makes all the sense in the world. Rest Cespedes. We can't risk a long term injury. And play Nimmo. Was starting to think everyone on the team would have to get swallowed in lava before he saw another start.

I think Harvey has proved they aren't required to travel together. I don't know what typical offday protocol is on road cities. Do they have workouts?cages?etc? Phillies are playing at 1 though, so probably not. Plus they do have to be at the park at like..9? on Friday so unless they're a guy with a party Wednesday night in NYC they're probably just going to Philly.

Was something in the air last August?

Bruce must have been extra excited to be traded to the Indians.

The entire series? Is that what players are doing now?

Three days is pretty standard.

I'm excited to get more Nimgares, and to have Francessa back on the air to share his well reasoned and healthy thoughts on paternity leave.

In the top of the first, no runs, no hits and one clerical error.

Which means you, too, can manage the Mets!

Fire Callaway, the bench coach, or anyone involved with that lineup card. LOLMETS
