Your Bingo guys have set a roster too. And it ain't all about what'shisname.

A couple of notes.

They're reportedly carrying 27 guys. Don't know how they get away with that stuff.
Even thought they're carrying 14(!!) pitchers, they only have four obvious starters. I'm listing swingman Drew Gagnon as the fifth guy, but I don't ken their plans.
Upper minors infielders. Kevin Kaczmarski and Jayce Boyd don't yet have assignments. I think Kaczmarski is hurt, though he hasn't been DL'd yet. I think Boyd is pissed.
In Nido and Mazeika, the team has two gen-u-ine catchign prospects on one roster, which makes Nido's return to Bingo even more surprising. Look for Mazeika to get a lot of time at DH as well as backing up TomÃ¡s.
Urena is listed as an infielder, but he was working out this spring primarily as an outfielder. I imagine he'll see time at all four outfield spots.
You never know with relievers, but the bullpen should be impressive. Baustia, Hanhold, and Smith represent a big chunk of the talent brought in at the trade deadline last season.

The Ponies climb to 4-5 following their best imitation of the 2017 Mets, losing eking a 4-3 win over New Hampshire, on the strength of hitting three homers (two by Jeff McNeil, one by Conor Oberste).

As is his typical performance at most levels, Tim Tebow had started slowly (despite an initial homer) with a low average and lotsa K's, before finding some footing, hitting two doubles yesterday to raise his average to .241. No walks yet in his first 29 trips, though, which isn't typical.

Two singles in five trips dropped Pete Alonso's line to .375 / .459 / .750 // 1.209, so, you know, he's a comer. From the starting side, Nabil Crismatt and Drew Gagnon have allowed two runs in 16 innings between them. In the bullpen, new Met Gerson Bautista has been phenomenal, but Tyler Bashlor has kept the pace, giving up but one hit and one walk in five innings.

The banishment of L.J. Mazzilli has opened up and opportunity for another namesake son of a Brooklyn-born former Met All-Star, J.J. Franco, but J.J. is thus far 0-5 with a walk.

The Ponies beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-5 last night. The 2-3-4 hitters for the Toronto-affiliated Cats were Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guererro, Jr., and Cavan Biggio, whose fathers combined to hit 1,014 big league homers.

Following a stretch of bad weather and consecutive cancellations last week, the Ponyboys have won three of four, pulling within three and half games of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, tonight's opponent and last night's loser. They have already fallen behind 2-0 following a first-inning New Hampshire homer off of Andrew Church.

Jeff McNeil has come on strong since last week's report, with a walk, double, and triple last night raising his OPS to 1.065. The lefthanded batter swings between second and third base, but has played a lot of outfield and some shortstop on his way through the system, and if he keeps his health, should finish the season at Las Vegas and be a candidate for a hitting utility man.

All-field/no-hit centerfielder Champ Stuart has taken his label quite literally this April, starting the season on an 0-19 turn. His five walks so far are the only thing keeping his career on life support.

Tyler Bashlor continues to kill it out of the pen, being unscored upon in seven and 2/3 innings, striking out 10. Tyler appeared in four games this spring, and is on the 40-man roster, so don't be surprised if he appears in Flushing. Nabil Crismatt gave up his first two runs his last time out, but his ERA still sits at 1.10 through three starts, as he attempts to become what I would guess would be the first Nabil in big league history. Faring more poorly is Milton, Massachusetts' own Johnny Magliozzi. Johnny has an ERA over 10, and yeah, it's a small sample size of three and 2/3 innings, but this ain't the PCL. Get it together, Johnny.

I'll be in Akron on Wednesday watching the Rumble Ponies play the Rubber Ducks. Then on Thursday, I watch my niece's Tigers play softball against the Parma Redmen, and wonder when it happened that minor league baseball teams and girls softball teams traded nicknames.

In anticipation of Chad Ochoseis's visit on Wednesday, the Rumble Ponies jumped out tot 5-0 lead over Akron last night, with Andrew Churchcruising into the fifth inning with a three hit shutout, only to see the whole house of cards collapse as Akron put up a seven-run fifth, holding on there for 7-5 win.

Peter Alonso's streak of homering in four straight games ended, as he was held to 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. If that's a disappointing game, it's certainly one most of us would sign up for. Alonso sits atop the league in batting average (.408), OBP (.505), slugging average (.776) and (naturally) OPS (1.282). You may now wipe that drool off your shirt.

Despite a minor hot streak for a week in there, Tim Tebow has done little to curb his strikeouts. He still gets his walks and occasional double, so he's hanging in there, but more contact and in-game power is what you've got to be looking for at this stage.

Jeff McNiel, a high-average/low-power infield with funny ears, has seen his prospect status fall with injuries in recent years, but already has a career high (4) in homers this season. Along with five doubles and two triples, he's enjoying a breakout slugging year (.623) and could see himself called up even before Alonso, as he plays all over the diamond and already touched Las Vegas last season.

Unlike Vance Worley in Las Vegas, fellow veteran signee Scott Copeland enjoyed a successful debut, going 5 1/3 innings against Erie, giving up just two hits and one run. Yeah, there were four walks in there, but Scott's a big dude and his middle name is "Reast," and that's not a guy I want to get on the wrong side of.

Coming on strong in the pen is Eric "I Wanna" Hanhold. Each of Eric's last three appearances have been of the two-inning, no-run variety, which kind of makes him the Robert Gsellman of the Eastern League. He's struck out nine, walked none, and saved two over that period, so keep an eye on his butt.

Nabil Crismatt takes the mound against Akron today, putting his 1.21 ERA on the line.

I'm limited to three attachments, or I'd show the shot of his adoring fans waiting by the team bus for his autograph after the game!!!

Tebow certainly gets his share of love from the people of Akron (and, presumably, Erie, Reading, Bowie, etc.). And he's a fine athlete who looked better than competent making a diving catch in left field. But he's struck out somewhere around 35 times in 70 ABs, and he looked completely overmatched at the plate. He looked like a college football star trying to play baseball.

Peter Alonso went 1-4 with a single, but didn't look Tebow-clueless at the plate and made a nice leaping grab of a line drive that was headed for right center.

Despite the score, Marcos Molina didn't look awful. I didn't see any hard-hit balls off him, but I missed the double and home run in the second.

John Mora went from first to third on a groundout in the top of the first. And he's not even the fastest guy on the team. Champ Stuart has some serious speed. And if he works hard, maybe one day he'll hit as well as Tebow.

Struck out his other three trips, though.

Alonso must have set some kind of record during the game. He was hit by a pitch THREE times.

It's been a tough May for Binghamton Rumble Pony fans. Tonight, reliever Johnny Magliozzi was pressed into service as a starter and, well, it did not go according to the plan laid out by manager Luis Rojas and pitching coach Frank Viola. Magliozzi lasted only one inning, giving up five runs, three earned (fielding error by centerfielder Champ Stuart) and exited with one of those double-digit ERAs the big kids are all getting.

But I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about Jeff McNeil. A few years back, he was one of the organization's top-10 prospects. Some folks might have even seen a top-5 prospect in him. But for the last two years, he's been mostly hurt, and all reports about him began, "Perhaps if he's able to stay healthy... ."

Well, he's staying healthy, and he's absolutely destroying the ball. With seven doubles, two triples, and six homers (already a career high), he's fifth in the Eastern League in in slugging at .609. And it's not even fair. Two of the guys ahead of him (Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. and Cavan Biggio) have the advantage of Hall of Fame genes, one (Luigi Rodriguez) has the advantage of taking Stanozolol (which earned him an 80-game vacation), and one (Peter Alonso) is a teammate. McNeil has hit in nine straight games, playing second and third, but he probably projects as a corner infielder longterm. But thinking about him, I got a flashback to 2008, when the Mets had a mid-season opening in leftfield, and came up with the most outside the box notion calling up their first- and thirdbasemen from AA (Nick Evans and Daniel Murphy) and making a leftfield platoon out of the two of them. Maybe if an emergency crops up in the Mets outfield (wood be knocked) they fashion an Alonso/McNeil platoon out there.

Probably not. But if it wasn't for Alonso's season, everybody would be all "Jeff this!" and "McNeil that!!"

Two one-run starts (one for five innings and one for five and a third) has gotten Scott Copeland a callup to Las Vegas. Best wishes with that, Scottie. Nabil Crismatt continues to anchor the rotation with his 2.12 ERA. And while there's depth in the bullpen, it hasn't been there in the rotation, with the likes of Marcos Molina (8.10) ERA really taking a beating. I'd suggest that Marcos' 40-man roster spot is in some jeopardy.

Infielder Nick Sergakis has been off the DL, but his .107 / .188 / .179 // .366 has provided scant evidence of that.

The Tebow Watch has been a little more fruitful of late, with the big leftfielder dialing back the setting on the wind machine, striking out just three times in his past six games. Before that, he had fanned 17 times in seven games, and that was just sad. But with a .241 / .327 / .425 // .752 line (tops among the Bingo outfielders), he's pretty much hung in there, and I would be less than surprised to see him get a mid-season bump to Las Vegas, perhaps again followed by early struggles and settling in after that.

Despite the Mets' soggy effort against the Royals yesterday, well, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright. The band is playinng somehwere, and that somewhere is Binghamton.

The Rumble Ponies, upon crushing New Hampshire, 11-1, have not only knocked the Fisher Cats out of first, but have now won six of their last seven and sit a mere 4 1/2 games off the pace in the Eastern League's Eastern Division.

I know, I can't shut up about Jeff McNeil. At this point, it sounds like we're dating, but he's actually put up a better line in May (.390 / .463 / .831 //1.293 with 6 homers and 19 RBI) than Pete Alonso (.310 / .459 / .552 // 1.011, 4, 15), and that's saying something, because as you can see from that parenthetical, Alonso has been pretty unworldly himself. Plus, playing third with the ability to bounce to second or short as needed, probably suggests that he's the more valuable player for this team. No joke! Send him to Vegas!! Free up third for Urena!!

Know who else has been lowering the boom? David Roseboom, that's who. He hasn't found a way to turn a corner in Vegas so far (not many have), but he's been killing it in Bingo. So far in May, he's appeared in five games, totalling 7.0 innings, while allowing no fellow Eastern Leaguers to cross the plate. None. Only 4 hits and 2 walks to butt up against 11 strikeouts. And folks, he's getting it done against lefties and righties too.

Like a lot of 2018's top performers (including McNeil), this fits into the what-I-can-do-when-I'm-healthy category. If he can even do modestly well in his next crack at the PCL, we'll see him at Citi by the end of the year.

A 6-4 win today over the Richmond Flying Squirrels puts the Ponies back over .500, sitting 4 1/2 games off the pace in fourth place in the tight and redundantly named Eastern League Eastern Division.

New shortstop Joey Wong made his debut two games ago and hit a homer in his first at-bat. He walked his other two trips for a perfect day at the plate. That promptly got him installed as the Ponies' new leadoff hitter, where he's rocking it to the tune of .429 / .636 / .857 // 1.494. It's good to be a 30-year-old in AA. Ask Tim Tebow.

It was another in-season addition, Scott Copeland, that walked off with the win, giving up three runs in seven innings, striking out six. Copeland is now 3-0 and trying to challenge Nabil Crismatt (5-2 / 3.09) for his position as staff ace.

Lefty specialist David Roseboom (1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings) has certainly demonstrated that he has recovered from last season's injuries, and it seems only a matter of time before Vegas calls. Heck, maybe New York sometime later in the season.

Reliever Drew Smith got an unearned demotion from Vegas, with his 3.66 ERA artificially bloated by a single bad outing in a spot start. He's given up just one run in 4 1/3 innings since his trip down and hopefully will be back in the PCL soon.

Finally, a tip of the hat to one more recent arrivee, Oliver Pascual, secondbaseman newly landed from extended spring training. Ollie went 3-4 in his first game.

Nothing's gonna stop us now.

The Ponies came out on the wrong side of a slugfest yesterday, falling 11-10 to the Erie Seawolves. Starting pitcher Joseph Shaw was puzzlingly left in to give up 10 runs in his 6 1/3 innnings. Adonis Uceta went the final two, ultimately taking the loss by giivng up a solo homer.

Jeff McNeil continued his redecorating campaign in the Eastern League during the carnival of offfense, going 3-for-5, raising his line to a pants-bulging .317 / .394 / .641 // 1.034. That last number is fourth in the league, behind only teammate Pete Alonso and two of New HampshireÂ´'s Hall of Fame offspring, Cavan Biggio and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. McNeil's magical May included a .340 batting average, a .407 on-base percentage, eight homers, and 27 RBI.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak and a six-of-eight run, bumping the Ponies within five games of first in the Eastern League Eastern Division.

The 10-run showing was pretty impressive since they did it with Alonso on the bench, the day after he went 3-6. The big Floridian settled in in May, going .284 / .425 / .510 // .935, which is impressive in any context, but comes after a .408 / .505 / .776 // 1.282 April, so, yeah, he'll get your glands going.

Also burning down the mission in May was reliever Daniel Zamora. The southpaw bounty the Mets got in a trade at the start of 2017 when they sent Josh Edgin to the Pirates gave up but one run in 10 1/3 innings in the Month of Maia, striking out 15 and WHIPping at 0.97. Yeah, it's AA, but the future is wide open, and "hope" begins with Z.

The Rumblers host the first place SeaWolves this weekend, with a double header kicking off the proceedings tonight. Josh Prevost, 4-1 with St. Lucie, makes his AA debut in the first game. It's Taylor Swift-Themed Fireworks Night. TRY to stay away.

It's been three weeks without a comprehensive update of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, with only that brief note above about the landing of Justin Dunn. And what with the start of the short-season leagues, and the dis-spiriting show of the Flushing 9, I'm going to ask you to understand. But ... it hasn't been good.

Look, there are worse ideas out there. When the Mets â€” quite reasonably â€” decided it was time for Jeff McNeil and Peter Alonso to join their AAA system-mates in Las Vegas, they knew they'd be cutting the left and the right nut off what was looking like their top minor league squad. So they â€” again, quite reasonably â€” decided to sign a big league vet to take Alonso's place in the person of Joey Terdaslovich, along with Indy League wrecking machine Josh Allen to replace McNeil.

Well, yeah, there are worse ideas. But maybe there are better ones, because while Allen is acquitting himself more or less respectfully at .263 / .326 / .395 // .720 through his first nine games, Terdaslovich has been little more than a blown fuse, a backed-up toilet, a Chevy on blocks parked in front of the Binghamton's NYSEG Stadium. That's all harsh and all, but compare his seemingly blindfolded .138 / .167 / .138 // .305 performance with the .314 / .440/ .573 // 1.012 show of the guy he replaced, you can understand why Manager Luis Rojas feels like he's getting punched in the guy every night.

And he's not the only one. The Ponies won (YAY!) last night, a 10-1 romp over the Trenton Thunder (heh-heh). Even Terdaslovich went 2-4 with an RBI. (Yes, you're reading that right â€” Terdaslovich hit his way UP to that .305 OPS.) But before that, the Ponies had lost 11 of their previous 12 games, going from seven over .500 to three under in that time, falling into fourth place in the Eastern League Eastern Division.

It takes a team to tumble so precipitously, but there are some folks doing more than their share. Marcos Molina, once a top prospect and once and still a nice guy, seemed to return to relevancy last season, but this year has been an unmitigated mudslide of a season. He's 1-8 with a 6.71 ERA and I fear it may be close to the end of the line for the fella. Andrew Church had an ERA .30 lower and he said fuck it and quit a few weeks ago. So I'm not going to tell you that it's not precarious, because it is. It's a results-based business.

One guy getting pretty decent results has been retread Scott Copeland, briefly a Met earlier in the year a when the music stopped and he had the last chair. Scotty is 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA. He's not striking out a whole lot, but he probably should be in AAA to see how his stuff plays in a more hostile atmosphere, but what can I say? Bingo's season is in jeopardy and they need the old guy. Also helping him out has been gen-u-ine prospect Justin Dunn, rocking a 3.32 ERA through three starts, striking out 19 in as many innings, though walking 10. It's been a nice bounce-back year for he former first-rounder.

Hey, one more guy who you better get used to living without is Champ Stuart. The speedy outfielder is either getting batting tips from Joey Terdaslovich, or is actively trying to play his way out of the game, rocking a .116 / .270 / .232 // .501 line through 49 games. FORTY-NINE! I hope the gamblers are giving him some nice kickbacks, because that sort of shit will lose you a LOT of games.

Tim Tebow, stuck on four homers forever, finally hit his fifth two nights ago, and while he's still a prodigious wind-maker, it's hard to deny his .256 / .335 / .402 // .737 looks downright respectable given the company he's been keeping. It doesn't scream PROMOTION! but he's probably looking at one soon anyhow. A little more power from the big guy, and I'd be calling him genuine, but I suspect the bat speed is lacking. The same lack of snappy wrist action that undermined his quarterback career.

I suspect.

Anyhow, there's plenty of season left, and they're not in such terrible position as all that, but they're under the same sort of cloud as the big club right now, and they're already losing tonight, 6-0.

It's the sort of month that makes a GM think about retirement.

With their two best players (Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil) ineligible following their promotions to Las Vegas, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies still have an ample delegation to dispatch to tomorrow night's Eastern League All-Star Game in Trenton's Arm & Hammer Park. Representing the third-place Ponies will be:

SP Nabil Crismatt, 8-5, 3.58 ERA, 34 BB, 94 SO in 93 innings.
RP Daniel Zamora, 1-1, 1 S, 3.72, 12 BB, 50 SO in 36 1/3 innings.
C Patrick Mazeika .212 / .311 / .349 // .660 with 6 HR and 31 RBI in 55 games.
SS Levi Michael, .284 / .370 / .453 // .823 with 9 HR and 26 RBI in 78 games.

Relief has been something of a strength for the team, and Zamora has been maybe the team's fourth best bullpenner, so that's something of a head-scratcher. But Joshua Torres (7-0, 1.20 ERA) really got burned in his callup to Las Vegas last week just as the All-Star roster was being announced. I guess he can deal.

Mazeika's selection looks like a puzzler too, but he gets something of a Bob Boone/John Stearns nod for bringing the D even in a weak offensive season.

Anchoring the Eastern Division Team will be all three of New Hampshire's big-name offspring: Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly paid a record in stud fees to produce that middle of the order for their AA lineup.

Met prospects all over the place in the Eastern League All-Star Game.

Nabil Crismatt unfortunately missed the game following his recent callup to Las Vegas.

Levi Michael started the game at third and went 1-2 with a triple and a run scored.

Patrick Mazeika came off the bench and caught the second half-ish of the game, going 1-2 with a run scored.

Tim Tebow DH'd the whole game and went 1-4 with a double.

David Roseboom got the only batter he faced, getting Joe Sever on a can of corn to left.

The only Bingo blemish belonged to Daniel Zamora who threw 1 1/3 scoreless, but allowed one of his two inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly, earning a blown save in a game that ultimately ended in a 4-4 tie.

That makes nobody happy. They should have pitched Tebow.

With Binghamtonâ€™s game in Bowie suspended by rain in the middle of the second (Bingo had a no-hitter going!), it was still and eventful day for the Rumble Ponies. Marquee dude Tim Tebow got put on the DL, perhaps for the rest of the season, Nick Sergakis got activated from the DL only to be released, despite a strong season last year in St. Lucie. (How do you feel, Kid? Fine! Ready to go? Sure! Good, get tlost.) Lastly, top prospect Andres Gimenez found himself promoted to AA at the tender age of 19 years, 10 months, and 19 days. He has a chance to be to Amed Rosario what Pete Alonso is to Dom Smith â€” the guy right behind him if he doesnâ€™t get his shit together.

Bingo, who wore some smart unis for the AA Subway-ish Series against the Trenton Thunder, arenâ€™t getting much more offense then the big club lately, winning just four of their last 12 games, including two shoutouts.

One guy who isnâ€™t part of the offensive lull, though, is shortstop Levi Michael, and the void left by the promotions of Alonso and Jeff McNeil has made the light of his outstanding season even brighter. Michael has gone .302 / .389 / .475 // .864, through 90 games and 393 plate appearances and thatâ€™s a big enough sample size to get the former Twins prospect raising some eyebrows. Yeah, I know. Heâ€™s 27. But you know what they say. THATâ€™S THREE YEARS YOUNGER THAN TEBOW!

Really coming on like rolling thunder (but not Trenton Thunder, thank the almighty) has been Justin Dunn. The Mets top pick from 2016 had a stinky-poo season in 2017, but has really reclaimed his big shot prospect status through 9 starts at St. Lucie (2.36 ERA in 45 2/3 innings) and 8 more in Bingo (2.66 ERA through 8 starts and 50 2/3 innings, with 56 strikeouts and only 18 walks). Notice how theyâ€™re stretching him a little more. But Jus is from Freeport. He donâ€™t need to be babied.

Coming on strong out of the pen has been the pornographically named Ryder Ryan. Double R, acquired from Cleveland in the Jay Bruce trade, started the season with St. Lucie, burned that place down and never looked back. He stumbled a bit with a 4.15 ERA in June, but through his first 10 1/3 innings with the Ponies in July, heâ€™s allowed but a single run. Thatâ€™s a 0.87 ERA with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks. Heâ€™s still got one more year in the minors before being eligible for the Rule 5, so donâ€™t worry about the Indians or anybody claiming him back. Heâ€™s yours. Heâ€™s Ryder Ryan.

The Ponies recent semi-swoon has them down, but not out. They sit in fourth place (of six teams) in the Eastern League Eastern Division, 8 1/2 games of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats pace.

Short on starting pitching coming off of last night's rainout, the un-Tebowed Ponies start usually-a-reliever Kevin McGowan against the Bowie Baysox tonight, perhaps hoping on bucket-brigading it through the bullpen. THAT'S NO WAY TO WIN A TITLE, GUYS!

While several Mets affiliates have been playing strong ball the last month or so, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies havenâ€™t really been one. Having one five of their last 10, including the last three, they can generously be said to be treading water. But itâ€™s late in the season, last chance to get swimming, and they just havenâ€™t found their stroke since the promotions of Jeff McNeil and Peter Alonso and the disabling of Tim Tebow.

One player that hasnâ€™t caught the mehs has been new addition Will Toffey. The lefty-swinging third baseman with the Dickensian name has really caught some traction in his first 20 games in the Mets organization since coming over from Oakland in the Jeurys Familia trade. Willâ€™s batting average has gone as high as .311, but his overall line is holding steady at .286 / .458 / .460 // .918. Not bad for a highly sought-after hockey prospect.

Also taking a step forward as the scenery has changed has been Franklyn KilomÃ©, the tall, athletic right-hander who came from Phillies in the Asdrubal Cabrera trade. Frankie had a 4.24 ERA as a Reading Phightin' Phil, but in his first 18 2/3 innings as a Pony, heâ€™s produced a 2.95 figure, including no homers.

Yup! Heâ€™s a member of the No-Homers Club!

Back from Vegas and still providing smoke from a distant fire out of the bullpen has been Joshua Torres. Joshâ€™s 1.15 ERA in 30 appearances (39) games should get your motor runninâ€™, and his 50 strikeouts in only 39 innings while walking only 13 should make you head out on the highway. And I BET that him throwing those 39 inning while giving up â€” again â€” NO homers has you looking for adventure and whateverâ€™s coming your way, but the real cool thing about Josh is that 8â€“0 record. Yeah, pitching wins are deceptive. But only Zack Brown of the Biloxi Shuckers (and just playing pro baseball at all is impressive when you're fronting your own band on a summer tour) has a record that is more impressively pure (9â€“0) so Iâ€™m going to point that shit out. When Josh comes out the pen, his team WINS.

Winning more consistently has been a bugbear though. Their opener yesterday against the Akron Rubber Ducks was rained out (which is bullshit, because ponies can swim and rubber ducks can float), so the Ponies remain jammed in a tie for fourth with the Hartford Yard Goats in the Eastern League Eastern Division but get out this week to see them during their homestead, and I bet youâ€™ll see them make some serious hay. Get out Saturday August 8 and the first 1,000 fans will receive an Amed Rosario King of New York Bobble Head (reserve yours, which has somehow made it to Citi Field despite being embargoed in Binghamton.
