Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 This wet fart of a season yielded little in terms of benefits. Lots of guys got hurt, some of whom undoubtedly resetting their career trajectory, everybody got a year older, and the team became less marketable, undercutting the payroll. But hey, the draft! The Mets pick sixth, and if Jonathan Mayo's first projection of the top 50 draft-eligible prospects, the shortstop-gorged organization is in line to grab another shortstop, based on Mayo's top ten.1) Brady Singer, rhp, Junior, University of Florida2) Ethan Hankins, rhp, Senior, Forsyth Central (GA) HS3) Matthew Liberatore, LHP, Senior, Mountain Ridge (AZ) HS4) Nolan Gorman, 3b, O'Connor (AZ) HS (No established relation to Tom)5) Shane McClanahan, lhp, Redshirt Sophomore, University of South Florida (No established relation to Rue)6) Nander De Sedas, ss, Senior, Montverde (FL) Academy7) Brice Turang, ss, Senior, Santiago (CA) HS8) Casey Mize, rhp, Junior, Auburn (No established relation to Johnny)9) Ryan Rolison, lhp, Sophomore, University of Mississippi10) Jackson Kowar, rhp, Junior, University of FloridaTwo familiar names are actually related to famous folks. Mets, in fact. 15th-ranked Ryan Weathers is the son of ex-Met David, and 19th-ranked Griffin Conine is the son of ex-Met Jeff. Jeff went in the 58th round, which doesn't even exist anymore, so the son is highly likely to exceed his father's humble beginnings. And look at his sweet aluminum swing!Top 10 Names10) Greyson Jenista, of9) Dominic Pipkin, rhp8) Slade Cecconi, rhp7) Jordan Groshans, 3b6) Konner Pilkington, lhp5) Sean Hjelle, rhp: Oh, HJELLE no!4) Noah Naylor, c: Kind of makes all those Doug Fister jokes obsolete.3) Brice Turang, ss: Is he a baseball player or an ancient civilization?2) Kumar Rocker, rhp: Not every song can be a Kumar rocker. Harold will tell you.1) Seth Beer, 1b: He earns his top spot by living up to his name, offsetting his awesome walk and slugging rates with a 20 (!) run tool, and predictions from scouts that he'll be a full-time DH by his 25th birthday.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 (edited) The guys John Harper suggested back in mid-September as reasons why the Mets should tank their way into a Top-5 slot (Rocker & Beer) are listed 17th & 27th on Mayo's list here and the two he cited (quoting BA's Jim Callis) as "can't miss" Mayo has one of them at #1 but the other down at #7Not that this proves anything other than 'opinions vary' on this stuff and that claiming to know who the best draftees will be nine months in advance is a fool's errand because this and every other list will change greatly between now and June. And then it'll take years to know whether the order they were taken was the 'correct' one. Edited December 6, 2017 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 But it'd be real impressive Seth Beer got replaced on the name list.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 5) Sean Hjelle, rhp: Oh, HJELLE no!And your Tabloid Cover Derby 2023 winner is from July 18:OH, HJELLE NO!Mets Rookie Shelled In Debut
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 No, no, NO! The subtitle should read,"METS ROOKIE SHJELLED IN DEBUT."Don't make me do everything.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I wonder how many Schaefer points Seth Beer might be able to earn?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 5) Sean Hjelle, rhp: Oh, HJELLE no!Probably no relation to Iben Hjejle[fimg=300]https://a1cf74336522e87f135f-2f21ace9a6cf0052456644b80fa06d4f.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/images/characters/p-High-Fidelity-Iben-Hjejle.jpg[/fimg]

I'd buy one.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 Well, sure, but unlike the 'Bow, Sethie is first-round material that we can't just sign for shits and giggles.
