This wet fart of a season yielded little in terms of benefits. Lots of guys got hurt, some of whom undoubtedly resetting their career trajectory, everybody got a year older, and the team became less marketable, undercutting the payroll. But hey, the draft!

The Mets pick sixth, and if Jonathan Mayo's first projection of the top 50 draft-eligible prospects, the shortstop-gorged organization is in line to grab another shortstop, based on Mayo's top ten.

Two familiar names are actually related to famous folks. Mets, in fact. 15th-ranked Ryan Weathers is the son of ex-Met David, and 19th-ranked Griffin Conine is the son of ex-Met Jeff. Jeff went in the 58th round, which doesn't even exist anymore, so the son is highly likely to exceed his father's humble beginnings. And look at his sweet aluminum swing!

The guys John Harper suggested back in mid-September as reasons why the Mets should tank their way into a Top-5 slot (Rocker & Beer) are listed 17th & 27th on Mayo's list here and the two he cited (quoting BA's Jim Callis) as "can't miss" Mayo has one of them at #1 but the other down at #7
Not that this proves anything other than 'opinions vary' on this stuff and that claiming to know who the best draftees will be nine months in advance is a fool's errand because this and every other list will change greatly between now and June. And then it'll take years to know whether the order they were taken was the 'correct' one.

If we're willing to sign Tebow just for jersey sales we should really be taking a hard look at this guy. I'd buy one.
