Mets release Joe Charles!

Kevin Gausman is one of those secret weapons that really doesn't get the fanfare that he should. He averages more than a strikeout per inning for his career, doesn't allow a lot of hits or walks, and has quietly compiled his way past 2,000 career Ks ... still an impressive milestone in any era. He's a free-agent after this season and is the sort of guy I actually might endorse giving a look at. He kind of reminds me of Andy Benes, who also compiled his way to 2,000 Ks without anyone really noticing. He didn't even make the HOF ballot.

The season is saved, as the Mets are signing another hot hitter in Christopher Morel, who has batted .162 with zero home runs and 1 RBI in 68 at-bats in 2026. This is on the back of a superstar 2025, when he hit .219/.289/.396 in 278 ABs. For his career, he competes for the top spot among modern greats, as he owns a .220/.296/.407 line. Pete Alonso is hitting .290/.384/.545 with 11 homers and 34 RBI since May 18 ... but not with the New York Mets :-(.

Tom Davis was a longtime baseball scout who spent over 40 years in professional baseball, working for organizations including the Phillies, Cubs, Angels, Mariners, and Braves. He also coached high school baseball and was named West Coast Scout of the Year in 2010, and he passed away in 2025 after a career that included signing players such as Nick Skuse.

Clay Holmes: Nearing mound work. Holmes (fibula) has been throwing on flat ground and is expected to progress to mound work next week, Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv reports. The veteran right-hander underwent a follow-up X-ray last week that came back clean, clearing the way for him to ramp up his rehab work while recovering from a fractured right fibula. Holmes will now need some time to build his arm back up and is likely looking at a return in late July or early August. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 7/27/2026.

Paul Lo Duca was awesome. You can tell how much the Mets standards have fallen since then. He wasn't brought back because he "slipped" to a .272/.311/.378 line in 2007. By the team's modern standards, that's enough to keep him around for another 5-6 years.

I think we need to bring back the traditional lineup construction that would put Soto at #4. He should be our RBI guy.

Dude, Kyle Schwarber is an animal. He's like Ralph Kiner, just packing all these super power-packed seasons in a short time span. Kiner's 162-game average, 1947-1951: 46 HR, 120 RBI, 115 R Schwarber's 162-game average, 2022-2026: 43 HR, 93 RBI, 96 R (though he's actually more comparable to Adam Dunn, 2004-2008).

Andy Green might be just what the Mets need to turn it around. An actual manager with managerial and playing experience, not some schlub like Men-dope-za (LO L get it?). Plus, his career .428 winning percentage is only about 200 points away from being a .600 winning percentage, so rounding up he's basically good enough to be a Yankees manager. Therefore, I hereby decree the Mets will make the playoffs this season with Green at the helm.

Anthony Kay, former first round pick traded for Marcus Stroman in 2019 (though he returned briefly in 2023), disappeared to Japan for a couple years. He returned stateside for 2026 and is doing well, posting a 6-2 record and a 4.24 ERA in 76 1/3 innings for Chicago.

It seems like for the past few years we keep hearing how many worthwhile prospects they have, yet they keep throwing retreads out there instead of letting the fruits of their farm system actually prosper. You can't know if the prospects are actually good if you never give them a real shot.

The Mets are "stretching out Myers" to become a starter. Disregard the fact he's been a total letdown. They're going to make him a starter. Disregard the fact the Mets have Tong, Wenninger and Thornton in the minors. They're gonna try to make Myers a starter. Well, Mendoza's gone but the stupid is still there.

Toby Myers has a 7.26 ERA since April 10 and a 11.12 ERA since May 6 (13 games), yet they still keep trotting him out there.

Toby M. needs to disappear, too. Could probably be traded for a 12-pack of Charmin toilet paper.

Dedniel Nunez: Cleared for rehab assignment. Nunez (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. Nunez is less than a year removed from undergoing Tommy John surgery but has already been cleared for game action. Barring any setbacks, the reliever appears in line for his season debut shortly after the All-Star break. Nunez boasts a 2.82 ERA and 59:14 K:BB over 44.2 innings during his time with the Mets. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/24/2026. Jorge Polanco: Beginning rehab assignment. Polanco (Achilles) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Polanco originally began a rehab assignment in late May, but the Mets shut him down in early June after he reported renewed soreness in his ankle. Now ready to return to a competitive setting, the 32-year-old will work exclusively as a designated hitter while he ramps up and could eventually take over as the Mets' primary DH once activated. Injury Achilles. Est. Return 7/7/2026. Marcus Semien: Shelved by hip flexor strain. The Mets placed Semien on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left hip flexor strain. Semien played every inning of both legs of Wednesday's doubleheader but evidently picked up a hip injury in the process. It's not clear at this point how long the veteran infielder will be sidelined. Brett Baty will likely see the bulk of the reps at second base while Semien is out. Injury Hip. Est. Return 7/5/2026.

I fell off the David Peterson bandwagon a lot sooner than most people. I remember being over him by 2023; he was far too inconsistent. I was impressed by his 2024 campaign, and thought he might've turned the corner, but still wasn't sold. We had seen that script multiples before. A good year, then a bad one, then a good one, then a bad one. The one highlight I DO remember fondly is his complete game shutout from 2025. Before there was Vientos, Alvarez and Baty, there was David Peterson, the top prospect they obsessively stuck with long after they should have ditched him.
