  1. I heard Barbara Streisand, Liza Minella and even possibly Bette Midler in there, but I'll take a gamble and say it was Glenn Close.
  2. I've never done a Fantasy Baseball league but I've always been curious. I've done football and actually was the commissioner of a league but baseball requires much more attention, right? That's really the only thing that keeps me from joining one.
  3. Got a friend who has had it his whole life (guy's 41). When he was a kid it sidelined him a bit but as an adult he finds it very manageable. Besides being a bit anal about germs and what he eats he leads a normal everyday existence.
  4. 'Baseball like it oughta be!' Oh, wait.
  5. Muchas gracias.

I've been out of the country the last week or so and what little snippets of Metsalia I'm getting are from day-old USA Todays and this place. Can one of youse enlighten me as to when and how Robbie Alomar's brother landed at Tradition Field sporting the blue & orange?

  8. ...and orange!
  9. Jason Vargas.
  10. Here you go geeks...
  11. ="SteveJRogers"]We probably haven't had this kind of "model citizen" come up like this to be such a mega star since a fellow named Tom some 40 years ago now And we all think he's a dick now, so there's hope for Wright.
  12. ]Gerhardt's death appeared to be a result of injuries suffered following an accident in her apartment, said her mother, Gwendolyn Gerhardt. I'm thinking she slipped in the shower. I read somewhere that the highest percentage of injuries that occur in the home are of the shower slipping variety. Really. The best man at my parent's wedding died that way.
  13. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I think they were reluctant to break up the 69ers I've heard Ed Charles complain bitterly to the contrary about that. At least in his own case.
  14. ABG wrote: How about Kevin Mitchell? Anybody who wins an MVP has lived up to the hype. Although I don't believe he was ever really hyped.
  15. Here's one for ya to ponder - Ken Singleton. Alas, I'm too young to remember whether he was 'hyped' or not but here's a guy who had a good career. Was it as good as expected? 2000+ hits in 15 years ain't too shabby.
  16. How does Gregg Jefferies fit in here? He had a pretty decent ML career - he made a lot of money anyway - and the Mets traded him pretty much knowing what kind of player he was/was going to be. No he never became the next Pete Rose but he could hit. I suppose he was hyped pretty hard and never lived up to it though.
  17. Buncha nerds.
  18. Haven't seen this but I truly wanted it to suck as I dislike will Smith quite a bit. Sorry you had a lousy evening but I'm glad you hated it, Vic.
  19. My memories of Ricky Ledee: He sucked.
  20. As did this incident...
  21. Gwreck wrote: Soupcan, is it possible you are mixing your memory of the Wembley show with one from later in the tour (ie.in the fall of '87)? Bono didn't hurt his arm until the DC show in September... Well it was 20 years ago, I was drunk and probably stoned. I've always been prone to forgetfulness but I'm 99% certain that the man had a cast on his arm at that show in July.
  22. THe only time I've ever been to the old Wembley Stadium was July, 1987. Backpacking through Europe that summer. Saw U2 on the Joshua Tree Tour. Lou Reed and The Pogues were the opening acts. Bono had a cast on his arm as a result of breaking it at a previous stop on the tour. We made our way down to the front of the stage which was cool until litre size glass bottles of beer started getting hurled straight up into the air and crashing down on people's heads. Moved a bit farther back for the rest of that show. Bought a wall-sized concert poster outside the stadium, rolled it up and carried it with me for the next 7 weeks all over the continent. Still have it. Framed and hanging in my office at home.
  23. I keep looking at this thread title and imagining a Samuel L. Jackson vehicle centered around a group of poisonous rabbis traveling to an away game.
  24. Sorry and Congrats.
