As fans we always say "I'd never want that guy on MY team", even though its a great player - Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, etc. that would unquestionably help the team win. Sometimes we're forced to suck it up (Guillermo Mota) when all of a sudden a guy we never wanted (Robbie Alomar, Bobby Bonilla) shows up on the roster (Vince Coleman). For me, while I love ARod as a player, I don't really dig ARod the guy. I like the Mets SS and I like the Mets thirdbaseman. I love ARod's numbers but I'm pretty happy that he's playing elsewhere and has very little chance of coming to Shea anytime soon.
  3. So what's Willie to do? Just win baby. Build that cache and eventually he'll get to pick his own staff. I'm not so sure that HoJo wasn't the better choice as hitting coach anyway.
  4. Yeah sorry, I knew that. Didn't mean to disparage you, just Rubin.

Mets win 2 of 3 against the Nats at home, beat St. Louis and win 2 of 3 against the Fish to close it out? My dead grandma could predict that. While I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat (only losing 2 of their last 7 games) I'm sure Mr. Rubin also thought that the Mets wouldn't get swept at home by Philly or lose 2 of 3 to the Nats earlier this week. All Rubin is saying is what should happen based on records. I think we all know that ain't always the case

  7. ="Edgy DC"]Thanks, Pete Rose. Looked more like 'thanks, chewing tobacco'. ="cooby"]So that's the Bud Harrelson story... That's it.
  8. I've met Bud Harrelson and shared that story here before. He was in the seat next to mine at the game when Jackie Robinson's 42 was retired. He couldn't have been nicer. Very pleasant, disarming and eager to please (bad teeth though). I asked to see his WS ring. He took it off, handed it to me and then stood up and walked away! He was gone for at least a half inning. When he came back I gave him back his ring and said "Gee Bud you don't know me, I could've just taken your ring and disappeared!" He said "Eh, that's the '86 ring, nobody touches the '69."
  9. This is the family version.
  10. Memory like a steel effin' trap Edgy.
  11. Yeah, I sorta did too right away.
  12. Excellent.
  13. I'm flippin' channels and I land on this HD channel called MOJO. They are showing a Who concert from the Isle of Wight and right now there's a band on called Manic Street Preachers and they are playing a tune called Motorcycle Emptiness. These boys are blowing my mind daddy-o! Anybody got anything on these dookies?
  14. Bruised knee, gimme a break, that ain't bad. The man is young and in shape, by all rights he shouldn't be out more than one day if that.
  15. Forgot about this thread (understandably).
  16. True on both counts.
  17. I spent a summer in Sarasota, Florida some years back (many, actually) and as I recall it rained very hard in the middle of the day - every day - for about 45 minutes then cleared up. The same thing happened in the late evening.
  18. I stopped by the luxe suite that day to say 'hey'. Opening day '05 was it? Alas, I was too early to see Le Grande Orange but I believe it was the first time I met the coobster.
  19. Joan Armatrading songs are very apropos to my relationship with the Mets and how they are making me feel these days...
  20. Yancy Street Gang wrote: At least it hasn't made me surly or short-tempered. Years ago, it might have. Unfortunately I'm not as evolved. Few years back, losses would really eat away at me to the point where they really did effect me in other areas of my life - surly, short-tempered, etc. - After realizing it I made it a point to try to not be SO involved/invested that it effects my personality. I've gotten better but apparently Yancy's a few years ahead of me. This last week hasn't helped much either.

  22. A Boy Named Seo wrote: And Scott Olsen's pitching against us tonight. And BK Kim tomorrow. Things are okay. Fine so we'll score 8 runs against each of these guys but Reyes, Wright and Beltran will make errors on routine plays and our bullpen will wind up giving up 9 runs (7 earned) right back. Its a tapestry!* (*Actual Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo quote from several years back)
