  1. The Offense Was Not The Problem. Hello Rick Peterson? Beat it.
  2. My vote goes to Rollins.
  3. '88 for me. That team should've been a dynasty.
  4. Okay, well that wasn't nearly as challenging as I thought it would be. I'm not saying that Wright could ever become the type of hitter Rodriguez is but still I found the similarities from the beginnings of their careers interesting.
  5. Looking for some silver linings I put this thing together. Apologies for not knowing how to create a chart in ezcode. Player A and Player B at similar stages in their career. Anybody want to guess who's who?

  7. Spoke to an 'acquaintance' Yankee fan this morning who not surprisingly had no sympathy for me (not that I'm looking for any). He then proceeded to rant about how Randolph should be fired ("FIRED!! THEY NEED TO CLEAN HOUSE!!"). Total team breakdown and all that nonsense. When I enlightened him about how this whole collapse was all about the pitching and lack thereof, Peterson and Minaya's respective roles, and how the pitching coach was not a choice of Willie's, he said he'd had no idea and maybe they shouldn't fire Willie after all. Typical Yankee fan.

  9. And just to be clear - I don't blame Glavine for this team's collapse (he was a large part of it however). I'm just pointing out that he had several shots to lift this team up out of this funk at very significant moments both against vastly inferior teams. Not only did not do that, he didn't even show up.

I don't know about you but its pretty easy for me to dump the hate bucket on him. He went out there and basically gave his team no shot to win.

  12. Say it with me - The Offense Isn't The Problem.
  13. I think its too bad that he'll be coming back (I assume the Mets aren't going to eat $13 mil in order to let a starting pitcher who won 13 games walk away). He's shown himself to be so much less than a big game pitcher. If the Mets are ever faced with another big spot in which they need a starting pitcher to step up, I hope that they remember how badly Glavine failed in that role this season the two times he had a chance. I never want to hear another baseball person, broadcaser, writer, etc. espouse about what a dependable veteran Tom Glavine is. Because he isn't.
  14. Do I care? No, not really. Will I watch? Sure. Over dinner tonight my family all picked teams we would root for since Tom Glavine laid down and rolled over like the choking dog that he is. I'm going Padres, my sons picked the Phillies & Cubs, daughter's got the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" and the wife is for the Angels.
  15. The only bright side I can think of is that there will be no chance of a gut-wrenching post season series loss to deal with. That's about it.
  16. I don't think Willie's to blame here and shouldn't be canned. It was the pitching, plain and simple. He could only pitch who he had. Omar supplied 'em and Petersen coached 'em. Since Petersen was not a choice of Willie's why should Willie be fired? Omar and Peterson are the architects of this collapse and since Omar isn't going anywhere Peterson is the one that should be shit-canned. Nevertheless, if Bobby V. is available I'd love to have him back.
  17. You still want him back next year? I sure as hell don't. He got the ball twice in two must win situations and got blown out of the box. Didn't even come close to giving his team a chance. Against two of the worst teams in the league. The last thing I want to see is Tom Glavine in a Mets uniform next year. Good riddance choker.
  18. Thanks again Tom! Douchebag.
  19. Don't forget - its Glavine tomorrow. Big time HOF 300 game winning veteran who didn't even show up for his last start. I'd wait a bit before counting any chickens.
  20. Stem Og Stel.
  21. metirish wrote: Soup did you hear the PA guy announce that Jim Smith was coming in from the pen to pitch for the Mets? It was one of those nights again it seems. No I didn't but nothing surprises me with this team anymore.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: Unless manager is at the top of his to-do list. Unless GM is at the top of the Wilpons' to-do list. You know what - I think these have become pretty valid questions.
  23. I was at this fucking game. It was like somebody threw a switch. Once the Nats went ahead, the Mets went from free swinging world beaters to a team that was just so tight. The Nats were taking pitches putting good swings on the ball and the Mets were hitting ground balls and pop flies. There is no word to describe how bad the Met pitching has been and JD is right - there is an offensive issue. I tend to ignore it because, well, if you're scoring 6 runs a game it really shouldn't matter what your offensive shortcomings are. Horrible, painful, stomach-turning loss. They suck and there's no reason to be happy if they do stumble into October because they will get beat so damn bad so quick that we'lll all get whiplash watching it. 32 runs in 3 games given up to - again - the worst hitting team in baseball. Amazing.

    Okay

Um, fellas? The offense ain't the problem.
  25. ="Yancy Street Gang"]Really, what can you do. Even pitchers as good as Glavine (or better) have bad games. And sometimes they come at bad times. It's not a sign of a character flaw, it's a sign that he's human. I understand. I do. Its just that the stars were aligned last night. - MUST win - Tom Glavine - Met offense is clicking - Nationals All we needed was a so-so start from a guy that we should've been able to count on in that situation. The guy just did not show up. It bummed me out.
