AG/DC wrote: Yeah, well I'd rather such movies not be snarky shots at stupid small town yokels getting what they probably deserve anyway, and get pitched with the tragic gravitas of a cinematic attack on Gotham You've got a lot of conditions. I haven't seen it but aren't the disaffected utes in Cloverdale pretty stupid in their own right?
  2. ...if it happens to latte-sucking Manhattanites I'd take offense to that if I still lived in Manhattan. Sometimes, like in CLOVERFIELD, the disaster is from a monster, alien, supernatural being or giant robot: Godzilla (98) Ghostbusters I, II Independence Day Beast From 20,000 fathoms Deadly Mantis King Kong (33, 76, 05) Sky captain & the world of tomorrow Sometimes, like in I AM LEGEND, we bring our doom upon ourselves: The Siege Escape From NY Gangs of NY Daylight World Trade Center 16 Blocks Daybreak Sometimes, its a result of natural disaster: Day After Tomorrow Armageddon Deep Impact Deluge (1933) and superheroes are constantly doing damage to NYC: Daredevil Fantastic 4 Men In Black Spider-man Superman X-Men, and My Super ex-Girlfriend not to mention such other NY disasters as "Hercules in NY" and "Can't Stop the Music"! Do you have some kind of cinematic almanac lying around or do you just grab this stuff off the top of your head? Give me an early sixties movie set in bucolic small-town America, where Johnny and his Chevy lead the resistance as the front lines for the the fight for the salvation of humanity is... right here in Greenfield Bluff! Close enough?
  3. Because the bialys are better here?
  4. Dad's playing golf with Craig again this weekend. If anybody has any questions for the guy I'll pass them along. I've got the 'Did Scott cheat?' question lined up. Anything else? As I recall it was Craig that showed Scott the split finger, but when was it? I don't think they were ever affiliated with the same team at the same time were they?
  5. Went to Port St. Lucie for spring training 2 years ago with my then 9 year old. Flew into Palm Beach, rented a car and then drove about about 45 minutes to Port St. Lucie. Stayed at a Holiday Inn that was pretty much just a Holiday Inn. It was about 5 miles from Tradition Field. There is nothing to do in Port St. Lucie other than go see a spring training game. Nothing. If your toddler golfs maybe you can find a golf course but other than that man, I'm talking tumbleweeds. I would avoid going to PSL if possible. I would especially avoid staying there. Do the Orlando thing and catch the Metskies on the road.
  6. I believe that MLB Advanced Media (mlb.com) tried to bring a case concerning that but got shot down. Don't know the details but I believe their goal was to get all fantasy baseball run through them or at least licensed through them. As far as I know they were not successful. Sort of along the same lines with what they were doing with fan-run, team-related websites a few years back that caused the ultimate demise of the original MOFO.
  7. Okay - what was the Santana update that no other media outlet knew? Johan would not necessarily object to playing in New York? The Mets have offered 4 guys and the Twins want 5? The Twins want Reyes and the Mets don't want to give him up? I can't imagine what it could be...
  8. Vic Sage wrote: I think the only question is whether he's a 1st ballot guy or not. And i think, since he'll end up with over 600HRs and a career OPS+ of around 140, he'll probably be a 1st rounder. What I meant by 'probably' was that I don't necessarily think he's a first ballot guy. He may be, but because of his injuries and his plain inability to play as a result I don't think he's looked at in the same light as he was when he was in his 20's and tearing everything up. I suppose I look at him as a victim of his own early success.
  9. mario25 wrote: You can always find outfielders via free agency but pitching is not so easy to find. I would seriously think about it if I was Omar. That's a good point. ="AG/DC"]No way. That's a pretty strong opinion. Really?
  10. I think I forgot to italicize him. Don't you think he needs another solid season or two to be a slam-dunk? Nah - you're right. Boldface Pedro.
  11. Oh - you thought I meant you?
  12. Bold - yes Italic - probably No indication - no. hitters: Carlos Beltran Lance Berkman Barry Bonds Craig Biggio Ken Griffey Chipper Jones Jeff Kent Scott Rolen David Ortiz Mike Piazza Manny Ramirez A-Rod I-Rod Sammy Sosa Ichiro Miguel Tejada Frank Thomas Jim Thome Pitchers: Glavine Trever Hoffman Greg Maddux Pedro Martinez john Smoltz Billy Wagner Roy Halladay Mariano Rivera Curt Schilling Roger Clemens I got 11 yesses and 6 probablys OE: Boldface Pedro.
  13. Dad pitched one year at Single A almost 40 years ago. If he was a big-leaguer we would've heard, but this was pretty obscure. Only a guy like Yancy with UMDB could've found it. Maybe a guy that runs an up-to-date Mets uniform number site might have come across it, but I don't think there are any sites like that. Up to date I mean.
  14. Nice job. Very cool.
  15. I knew him as 'Willie Montan-YES!'

  17. This is a nice change - I can't remember the last time we had an actual new poster introduce themself (selves?). Usually our new registrants (strents?) are just Viagra hawkers. Nice to have you Mario, enjoy Fantasy Camp. I've often wonderd how they give you the uniform numbers at those things. Do they just ask you what number you want? I mean how many guys at one camp can be 41?
  18. I don't know what Mellencamp is talking about - I thought this movie blew chunks. Saw it in the theatres a while back. Agree that the actor who played the dad was excellent but Kal Penn as the son is seriously miscast (and by the way, is just not a terribly good actor) and the story is just so much tripe. My wife read and loved the book and was similarly disappointed. BOO!-lywood.
  19. Vic Sage wrote: But the script and the storytelling left alot to be desired, dontcha think? I suppose, but I don't ever expect much in those areas when going to a movie of this type anyway so... What could really be done to improve the script? He was the only guy in the movie for 90% of it. The fact that there even WAS dialogue was a feat. The story was a bit choppy but again, I was mostly focused on the pictures.
  20. Yup. I agree. The anti-Semite made a very good movie. Lot's of blood, gore and action.
