  1. Beltran and Alomar signed as free agents rather than being traded. But if its only NL ROYs then the question is fine.
  2. I peeked and the question is wrong two different ways.
  3. How about if the Mets say to the Twins 'We're close but we need more time" Could the Twins then say - "you know what, we've been roundly ridiculed for this deal and other teams have since basically indicated that if they knew this was all it would've taken to get Johan that they would have ponied up a better package. With this in mind, we think we can now make a better deal so, no Mets, we're not going to grant you any negotiating extension. Deal is now off." 'zat possible?
  4. Damone sure thought he was hip and cool.
  5. That's the reality but Twins fans don't look at it that way. They're not thinking they would've only had him one more year. They wanted the Twins to sign him or trade him for something much better than what they got.
  6. ]...near-in, low-upside arms 'Near-in'? What does that mean?
  7. I'm just thinking that there's no real reason it hasn't happened yet.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Hopefully some day soon we'll see a transaction where the Mets will get a player that both they and the Yankees desperately wanted. That is hasn't happened yet is a sign that the Yankees are still the power to be reckoned with in this town. I'm not so sure that this is the case any more. And if it is still the case, really shouldn't be for much longer at all. It may be 8 years now since the Mets last WS appearance but that's the same year the Yankees won their last one. The last Yankee WS appearance was already 5 years ago. Yankees are riding some streak of postseason appearances but the Mets are now considered legitimate and perennial contenders every year. The Mets are arguably as loaded as the Yankees with solid, capable possible HOF caliber vets and dynamic young players. New Stadiums coming at the same time, team-owned TV networks, flush with money and showng a willingness to spend. Undoubtedly the Yankees have the history and the winning tradition, but in the present it looks to me like things are evening up pretty quickly. What argument could a Type A free agent have in choosing the Yankees ovcer the Mets? That he isn't bilingual?
  9. You gotta think that the Twins had a choice of what packages to take from the Mets. They probably could've had Martinez in a package that didn't include Guerra for example.
  10. ="Gwreck"]Endy Chavez, who the Mets did recently negotiate a contract with, does have the same agent as Santana. I read in the Post this morning that he's Reyes' agent as well. "Well Omar considering you raped us on Jose's deal..."
  11. One of the posters on the Twins board threw this up:
  12. Just listening to Buster Olney on ESPN News radio. "Everyone is baffled as to why the Twins made this deal." "It was the 4th best deal out there."
  13. In your wildest dreams Mulvey will not become Johan Santana - what's the problem?
  14. That is an EXCELLENT job by Omar!
  15. Did Doug Flynn mention me?

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: ... thiswas really a well-written movie, or whether the character Juno was just an artificial amalgam of specific "ironic cool" code and cliches that couldn't possibly belong to an actual 16-year-old Do these ideas have to be independent of each other? Can't the 'ironic cool' also be well-written? Suro the Juno character was a reach - I've never met a 16 year-old girl cool enough to make me leave my wife and reassesss the last (almost) 30 years of my life, but it was a movie. A 'real' wise-ass 16 year-old wouldn't give you much a story would she? Look at the crap on MTV when they follow these kids around with cameras for whatever semi-reality show they're filming. These kids aren't interesting. They don't know anything and their opinions are either non-existent, ill-informed or just naive. I liked this movie because it was well written and the entire cast was great. 1982 prom theme for me was 'Breaking Away' by Al Jareau. It dovetailed nicely with a senior class theme of 'Break On Through in '82! I'm sure I've got my button around here somewhere...

  18. Here's the Post article... REPORT: SANTANA TRADE IMMINENT; METS HAVE EDGE By MIKE PUMA January 28, 2008 -- The end could finally be near in the Johan Santana sweepstakes. And the winner is . . . according to a report yesterday in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the answer likely will be revealed within the next 10 days, before pitchers and catchers report to spring training. Of the three main contenders for the ace left-hander, the Mets have emerged as the front-runner mostly based on their open willingness to deal top prospects to the Twins, but the Yankees and Red Sox still lurk in the shadows. A Mets official said last night there's no way of knowing what Twins GM Bill Smith is thinking, but the official sounded optimistic the Mets could close the deal for Santana. The Mets' package likely would include pitchers Phil Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra and outfielder Carlos Gomez. The Twins also have sought outfielder Fernando Martinez, but Mets GM Omar Minaya hasn't been willing to include Martinez in a trade. On Friday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman stated his position loud and clear, telling a gathering of fans at William Paterson University in New Jersey that he'd like to pass on Santana. "My strong recommendation is we stick with our young pitching staff and keep it in-house," Cashman said. "That's my recommendation, and we've fought hard to take one step back to take two giant steps forward." The Twins have sought a package from the Yankees that would include Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy and Jeff Marquez. In recent weeks Cashman has indicated the Yankees would listen if Minnesota lowered the asking price. Of course, the possibility also looms that Hank Steinbrenner will ignore Cashman's recommendation and do whatever is needed to land Santana, who is seeking a $150 million contract extension over six years. He can become a free agent after this season. The Red Sox remain a dark horse, with a package that would include pitcher Jon Lester and either Coco Crisp or Jacoby Ellsbury. mpuma@nypost.com

  20. Saw it last night. Wife and I liked it a lot. Gave it 8 stars. Not just Ellen Page, but the entire cast was stellar. Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, J.K. Simmons and the actress that played the step-mother. 'Dream big Bren!'
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: You can remind us of the line anytime now, Soupy. Especially now that I finally saw it. Marky Mark was one mad asshole, all his lines were pretty good. It was when Costello and the gang were meeting with the Chinese dudes and they were being surveilled. Wahlberg says something to one of the guys doing the surveillence and the guy says 'Who are you?' Wahlberg's response: 'I'm the guy that does his job, you must be other guy.'

Rusty-uranteur Staub comes to mind first but I'm guessing that suave Manhattanite Mex could handle that as well. I need to unearth the oil tank in my front yard and move it inside into my basement because of environmental concerns. To whom can I turn?

Doctor K all the way. Recreational drugs sure, but performance enhancers? I wish. Your audition on American Idol is not going well. Paula's tapping her feet and smirking, Randy's chewing his pen and looking at Simon sideways to get an inkling of which way he should vote. Simon though is looking incredibly bored and is grabbing for the gong stick. Who's gonna burst in and make sure you get the golden ticket to Hollywood?
  24. Don't think so about Ryan. Never thought about him when thinking about steroid guys. Maybe because he's just been away from the game for too long. Jeff Kent.
