  1. The Angels might have done us a favor. We can spend that money on a pitcher who doesn't have as many question marks and can throw breaking balls.
  2. Did the Mets even get a chance to make a counter offer? Or, is this something that happens when you don't have a GM in place?
  3. Assuming the reports are true and Syndergaard is an Angel, what's our next step? That sure doe free up money for Stroman or another pitcher. Or do we go for a trade?
  4. One of the neat things about radio is you have to imagine what the person looks like. I saw Sommers' photo for the first time recently, and would never have imagined that's what he looked like. My mental photo had a lot less hair. All the best to him in what comes next!
  5. I'm glad Matz had a nice bounceback year.
  6. This is wild! How are you finding all these newspaper covers? I liked the one of Lindor in his Mets uniform -- or what I'm guessing is a Photoshopped Mets uniform.

It's going to get even worse. I've heard commentators -- not the hysterical ones -- say that in the not-so-distant future there will be iPod-like screens at seats in some sections of ballparks where you can bet throughout the game. Not just on the conclusion, but on things like "No runs will be scored in the first inning" type of things. That seems like a dystopian thing, but apparently that's expected to be the next big revenue stream. What could go wrong? Remember when Mays and Mantle were barred from the sport just for being greeters at casinos?
  8. Awesome work!
  9. Ron Washington, though he'll be busy for a little bit longer.

But also a big difference between getting two innings out of your guy vs five-1/3, and particularly so when Mr. Two-plus is the highest paid in the game. Will Cole wear his "Team Boras" cap to the press Zoom call after the game, or was that just an Astros thing? Or, will he appear in the post-game call at all?
  11. I can see how asking players to uproot their families and move mid-season to another country would be a problem, no matter how much money they are making. The Rays definitely need a new stadium, and it would be better in Tampa. But as the Marlins have learned, getting a new stadium doesn't necessarily mean better attendance. That said, there are many additional reasons why the Marlins are challenged to build a fan base and draw customers, including the dismantling of the team every time it starts to get decent. It would be nice to have baseball in Montreal again. Just not sure this is the way to do it.
  12. =TransMonk post_id=78509 time=1632501959 user_id=71] I'm not sure I do either. I can drink beer and heckle Josh Hader!
  13. Ken Burns did a wonderful job with his Baseball epic, but I was disappointed in how he ignored this game as he looked at the 2001 season and the aftermath of the attacks. He focused on the Yankees playing their first game back on the road against the White Sox and claiming Southside fans were rooting for the Yankees. But the Mets moment seemed to be more representative, and the team wearing the special caps and supporting recovery efforts. Piazza's homer is even mentioned on his Hall of Fame plaque. I realize the documentary is largely framed around the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox. But this seems like he was ignoring a truer moment to advance his narrative.
