  1. This is true! We were looking to retain the name of our college team and come up with a mascot. I met with consultants who worked with us on ideas. I have to imagine that actually changing the names has about five more layers of complexities. The food things are all "alternate" identities. Some are neat, lots not so much. Then they all have the "Cupa de Diversion" latino identities, also with some neat, and lots not so much. I think Rumble Ponies is not a great name, but the Brooklyn Cyclones is brilliant! Almost all of those cutesy two word names for minor league sports teams emanated from the same marketing firm. I forget the name but, IIRC, they were based in San Diego. So, yeah, they'd find something 'unique' about the location and hunt around for a name off of that: 'Hey, I hear horsey carousals are big in Binghamton ... I've got it, Rumble Ponies!!!!' And the Jacksonville Suns abandoned their longtime name in favor of Jumbo Shrimp, and then there's the Yard Goats, Iron Pigs, etc. There's nothing like acting like everyone else in an attempt to be unique. Yup. The company is Brandiose -- https://www.brandiose.com/.

  3. I don't think McNeill was bad. it's just that the other guys are better. Soto is not a tremendous fielder so he needs someone in center with a ton of range.
  4. Is Stearns saying he's done? We have some time before the deadline ends!
  5. Herman Tommy Davis!
  6. I saw both games in Baltimore this week and he made some great catches and hit his 100th home run. Keeps McNeil at second base or DH so it will be interesting to see where the kid Mets all end up playing - unless one of them goes in a deal for a starter tonight. I think they made excellent deadline deals.
  7. I saw him pitch in Pittsburgh this year. His first relief appearance after Peterson gave up five runs. He seemed to be doing well, until he gave up a three-run homer.
  8. This can be for all the non-Mets activity. The Diamondbacks must have decided to sell, because Josh Naylor is headed to the mariners, per MLB.com.
  9. Well, I'd rather they'd go back in the box and get rid of the ghost runner and some other little silly things. But no, they'd rather focus on lining the maga pockets of racetrack owners with gimmicky things like this instead of keeping baseball baseball. Put it together and whatya got? Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo... (I know, it's actually boogity, boogity, boogity) I was thinking the Field of Dreams game, the Rickwood Stadium game, the Williamsport, Pennsylvania game, the international games, and things along those lines. No love for the ghost runner from me.
  10. I've been to two races at Michigan International Raceway. My employer at the time was the title sponsor, so we had an indoor suite. That is the only way to attend one of those. But it was possibly the most fan-friendly event ever. We got to walk on the track and sign the finish line - not sure of that is an MIS thing, or they all do that - wander around the pits, wander around the crew trucks and area. As the sponsors, we got to be part of the trophy presentation on the infield. There was an outdoor viewing area on the roof of the suite. That was the loudest thing I've ever experienced. I like it when MLD does out-of-the-box things like this.
  11. The Braves caps with the flames are funny. Perfect for this location.
  12. Sproat and McLean both had some of their best games of the season with Alvarez calling the games behind the dish.
  13. I'm sure Billy Eppler and Brodie are still available if you'd rather have them. I give Stearns the benefit of the doubt.
  14. That's a great story, Edgy!
  15. In fact, he does! Peter announced he has a new rock album coming out this year. His last offering was a Great American Songbook kind of thing that was not well received.
  16. Peter Criss, the original Kiss drummer, was spotted at The Mets game earlier in the week, according to a Facebook post. Rock N Roll Experience WWW.FACEBOOK.COM From the KISSFaq board: Peter Criss was spotted at The Mets game last night! It's nice to see Criss out and enjoying life.
  17. Looks like Minter is gone for the rest of the season, or close to it. https://nypost.com/2025/04/29/sports/aj-minter-might-need-season-ending-surgery-in-brutal-mets-injury-blow/
  18. The least classy fans in MLB. Yankees fans chant ‘f–k Juan Soto’ out of nowhere with anger growing for Mets’ $765 million slugger https://nypost.com/2025/04/04/sports/yankees-fans-chant-f-k-juan-soto-with-anger-growing-for-mets-slugger/
  19. You guys are harsh. This looks kind of fun. A lot of teams are doing this. Just in the games I went to last year, the Diamondbacks and White Sox had racers like former players, the Tigers have cars, the Pirates had perogies. Keep in mind, the demographic posting here is not the intended audience. The old guys like me who still buy a program and keep score will barely look up when this is going on. They're aiming at the kids. As far as the "small town hokey crap" and "This is New York" stuff, dude, we had Grimace hailed as a hero last season. The racing presidents thing in Washington is brilliant. It was cool to see them roaming around before the game. I posed with TR.
  20. Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz was on the "Meet at the Apple" podcast last week, and he's a huge Mets fan!
  21. I am an optimist! I give Stearns the benefit of the doubt on the pitching. A healthy Senga will make a big difference. If there is a problem, the team has the money and prospect capital to fill it at the deadline or before. That top of the order -- Lindor, Soto, and Pete -- are going to mash! 1. What will the Mets' record be? 95-67 2. Predict the NL East standings from 1 to 5: Mets, Braves, Phillies, Nationals, Marlins. 3. Will the Mets make the playoffs (if so, as the division champ or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd WC)? As division champ. 4. If so, how far will they go? World Series! 5. Who will be the World Champion? Your New York Mets! 6. Number of regular season HRs for Pete Alonso: 42 7. Who will be on the cover of the 2025 winner of the Tabloid Cover Derby? Francisco Lindor.
  22. Newsday has an interesting feature about pitcher Justin Hagenman, a career minor-leaguer who got a major league contract. Suggests he might be our dark horse Met of 2025! https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/justin-hagenman-contract-czd16d4s#utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Sports&lctg=89258afa08eb13c55f00f8886c35c341f77db8ea52a6c8e23da8317e16e81aa7&utm_term=sub
  23. Buster Olney today was making it sound like this is definitely headed to TJ and that Cole will miss all of this year and the start of next season. Likely won't see him until the All-Star Game in 2026 - which will be in Philly, by the way. Back-to-back NL East stadiums with the game in Atlanta this season.
  24. I kinda liked it. John Lithgow was good and his character came around. I really liked the soundtrack at the time. Takes be back to my college days. I didn't have too many cassettes, and I couldn't bring my vinyl halfway across the country. But this is one that I had and played the heck out of it on my Walkman.
