  1. I don't there is any chance that Stearns gets fired. I don't think he should. I do think Snitker the hitting coach could maybe be out of a job. I also wonder if the PBO needs a GM working under him so he could focus on PBO things. I'm not entirely sure how different those worlds are.
  2. I like this. We're giving too many at-bats to guys from the scrap heap. Even if he heads back down when Robert is back, this will be good for the team.
  3. If it's not a "manager problem," could it be a "batting coach problem?"
  4. Carlos Correa out for the season. That ankle finally gave out.
  5. Or he just has different political views than you do.
  6. I’m not sure Benge gets that ball even if he doesn’t fall. Radio guys tried a Sterling tribute on the Vientos blast, but ended with “it’s caught at the fence.” He was saying “I could have sworn that was going 20 rows deep!”
  7. Though not for lack of trying. Tarik Skubal is having surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. No timetable on his return. Get that stuff cleaned out, get some rest and come join the Mets in the offseason.
  8. @FMan's "conversations" between John and Suzyn with photos were somewhat inappropriate. But I could never read them at work because I would laugh so hard that my sides hurt.
  9. Mendy is part of the front office.
  10. Interwebs speculating that Andy Green, former Padres manager who works in the front office, is the likely choice to replace Mendoza.
  11. I'm enjoying the site, I like how easy it is to post photos. It has a nice, clean look and is easy to navigate. Nice work, Brock!
  12. Buster Olney speculating Kai Correa, who is viewed as a future manager for sure, or Beltran. He said the biggest problem is inserting a rookie manager into this mess. I get that, but I also don't know about bringing in someone who already has been fired once or twice. Beltran supposedly commands great respect. And, given the Houston thing, we know he can be kinda devious and think outside the box. I do recognize that technically Beltran has already been fired once.
  13. I don't know what they can possibly do with Peterson and Manaea at this point.
  14. Well this went to hell in a hurry.
  15. I wasn't saying Sterns gets "credit" for not signing Tucker. Anyone would sign him in a heartbeat. Was noting that just about all of the big names from the last free agent class are struggling at the start of this season. As you said, Tucker will likely be fine in a bit. But so should Bichette. Benge would probably have been at Syracuse had Tochman not been hurt. McNeil didn't have a position. Did Stearns "practically give him away," or is that the best he could have gotten for him? With Soto -- and others -- I wonder if the WBC played a role in the injuries.
  16. David Stearns is a very smart man with a long track record of success before coming to the Mets. I don't know if any of the players we parted with are lighting things up. Nimmo has cooled off. Pete is below the Mendoza line. Diaz is hurt. Jet Williams isn't hitting at Triple-A. Sproat has been in the Milwaukee bullpen. Acuna is hitting .186. I don't think any of the guys we went hard after are doing well. Kyle Tucker is hitting .239 with three homers. Bregman is off to a slow start. He's building the system from the bottom up. It's going to take some time. It's not his fault Lindor has been hurt since spring training or that Beltran has been a little gimpy -- though there could be some hard questions for the trainers about why guys are getting similar types of soft tissue injuries. Polanco has been hurt, as he often is. I don't know if there was a great first-base solution out there. Everyone seemed to think Baty had finally turned the corner. Benge probably would have started at Syracuse had Tochman been healthy. I'm not saying things have been great because clearly they have been awful. It's not like the Mets are the only supposed good team stumbling out of the game. Look at the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Phillies, Royals, Mariners, Tigers, Royals. We've had enough turnover. We need some stability.
  17. If they're not hitting, then maybe the new hitting coach needs to go.
  18. I wasn't on Team Fire Mendoza. But if they get swept by the Rockies and score just one run in a doubleheader, I think they have to pull that trigger. I don't know if Beltran is a serious option, but they sure need something.
  19. Reports on MLB.com that the Red Sox have fired Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Ramon Vazquez and game-planning coach Jason Varitek after the team's 10-17 start. Buster Olney has been speculating that Cora belongs on the Phillies.
  20. Nice to see Baty bash that thing. Maybe this is the night they break out!
  21. This will end up being a lost season for him, I fear.
