  1. How did he get ringworm? And why not just go to the team doctor for a prescription? His story is goofy.
  2. Stealing third might be out of the question.
  3. Just tuned in - I have Apple TV for Ted Lasso - in time for the Lindor play. Then the next play, and discovered Cahna at third!! Had to go back and read the thread from the start to catch up.
  4. Interesting story in the Post as Syndergaard makes his visit with the Phillies. You have to wonder. He got that extra million. And he went from a team that was out of it to a team fighting for a wild card. But he could have been part of something special with the Mets. Sounds like he thought he would have a better chance with a bounce back season away from the glare of New York. “That energy that can make New York so great and positive can also bite you in the butt a little bit, especially with what I'm going through now. I felt like if I was doing that playing here, everything would be highlighted,” said Syndergaard, traded to the Phillies right before the trade deadline on Aug. 2. “That was a big fear of mine.” Hi tweet after the no-hitter was lame, but I wish him well -- when he isn't facing the Mets. https://nypost.com/2022/08/12/noah-syndergaard-on-leaving-mets-i-have-no-regrets/https://nypost.com/2022/08/12/noah-syndergaard-on-leaving-mets-i-have-no-regrets/
  5. The really tough positions to speculate on, down to the #4-7 slots, are SS and C, both of which take special skills to do even semi-competently. For emergency purposes you need to be three-deep there, and that seems to be exactly where the Mets are, three-deep but not four. In a sense pitching is the most specialized skill of all, except you always have twelve qualified backups, and another twelve thinking "Yeah, me! Put me out there, Buck! I'd be a great pitcher." McNeil has been good at second, and you wonder how he'd be in a pinch at short. Probably better than Orosco and McDowell in right field in 1985 -- though Orosco fielded a fly from Tony Perez! He might be the No. 4. Assuming this would all be to finish a game before reinforcements arrive from Syracuse.
  6. Under-performing Tigers fire GM Al Avilia after seven seasons. Owner Chris Ilitch throws him all the way under the bus: Chris Ilitch on shedding payroll and trading away players like Justin Verlander and JD Martinez: "I didn't trade those players away. Right? Our general manager did."
  7. Yankee hack Ian O'Connor has a Buck column with a little too much Yankee content. Seems to think Buck was owed this team because of 1994. Not a single Jeter mention, which is rare for O'Connor. https://nypost.com/2022/08/10/baseball-gods-owed-buck-showalter-this-charmed-2022-season/https://nypost.com/2022/08/10/baseball-gods-owed-buck-showalter-this-charmed-2022-season/
  8. Oh, I know. Just reporting what they were saying. It's rare for them to get the Mets that much love. I thought the pool might enjoy hearing about it.
  9. Buster Olney, after the obligatory Aaron Judge worship, was making a case on the Baseball Tonight podcast, for Diaz to be the NL Cy Young Award, then said there is a case to be the NL MVP as well. Tim Kurkjain put him second in the Cy, behind Sandy Alcantra, and said maybe sixth in the MVP. He basically said no reliever should win either.
  10. Does El Deque count?

SNB has become three-plus hours of ESPN being ESPN with a baseball game occasionally interrupting. Oooh look, a full screen!! I just saw a pop-out. I heard there was some kind of documentary about a Yankee shortstop with no range. Did they mention that at all?
  12. Tied for the second-best record inn baseball!
  13. Second games of series seem to be a challenge for us.
  14. So, I went to China for work in 2015. I have the China team cap from the World Baseball Classic that looks like what the Mets re giving away, but with a C instead of the Mets NY (or the tiger on the under brim.) It has the flag on the side. It's a cool cap. Is the author saying that just by using the colors of the Chinese flag, the Mets are promoting communism? Was she hoping instead for a blue cap with a panda on it? Seems like a bit of a stretch.
  15. Carrasco is tied for second in the league in wins!
  16. Everyone who criticized the deadline acquisitions apologize to Billy right now. I'll start.
  17. We'll that was a little scary at the end.
  18. Was expecting more from Givens.
  19. =kcmets post_id=102158 time=1659553512 user_id=53] They maybe coulda shoulda have retired that number. I know that notion makes some people nuts, not looking for a three-page debate.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: Braves still up 1-0 in top 8th when they appeared to get out of the inning with a 5-4-3 GIDP with Philly runners on 1st & 3rd. But replay showed that Realmuto beat the rap at 1st so no DP and the game was tied. Nick Castellanos then followed with a 2R HR So 3-1, bottom 8 I sure hope someone asks Castellanos after the game if he heard the boos from Braves fans after that homer.
