  1. I like Carlos Beltran, and I'm thrilled the Mets are retiring his No. 15. I think he's worthy, especially as a Hall-of-Famer wearing an interlocking NY - the good kind -- on his Cooperstown plaque. I like when the Mets salute their past. They always seemed to lag in there. We can be loud and proud. I have no problem with retiring numbers of folks like Beltran.

  6. Well, I'm afraid Schaefer is done forever. The streamlined voting form that I designed was tied in to the box score data from the UMDB, which I won't have going forward. I suppose there's a chance that the TCD could be revived, but I don't anticipate it happening. Sorry! Bummer - but completely understand.
  7. Count me in! Maybe a new place with some additional followers and the return of some prodigal friends will mean the return of beloved features like the TCD and Players of the Month. I'm sure Brock can find a job for Maja if the Stockholm office is closed for a bit.
  8. Frampton Comes Alive has some good songs. I had a 45 with “Show Me the Way” and “Baby I Live Your Way” on it. But I listened to the rest of the album a few years ago and though it was pretty “meh.”

  15. He's a quality person! I think I told the story about how when he was with the Tigers and was sent to the Grand Rapids on a rehab assignment. Granderson told the Whitecaps to fill the morning with a visit to a local middle school so he could talk to students about the importance of doing well in school. I was still a reporter covering the city schools and got to sit in on the assembly and got to talk to Curtis for a bit.
  16. He's a businessman making an offer, which we are free to accept or reject. I get approached by vendors looking to do business with me every day. I manage to treat them respectfully even when I'm not interested in their service or product. It's not difficult.

  20. Luis García is an under-the-radar signing who can be really helpful. Signed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract, which includes $1.25 million in potential incentives. He's going to be 39 and still hits 96 mph sinker.
  21. I'm among the folks who were posting that people had passed without adding memories or context. I misunderstood the intent there, and apologize. I'll do better! Batmags was beyond toxic. He didn't just post offensive things, he targeted certain members with the purpose of attacking them and driving them away. No one wants to be part of a baseball forum filled with hate speech, bigotry, and misogyny. There were many times when I wanted to post something, but didn't want to endure the two weeks -- or more -- of attacks that I knew would be coming. I come here for fun and community, and that creates neither. I applaud Edgy for taking the steps he did. I'm disappointed in the people who left because he took those steps, but also recognize they were never the frequent targets of Batmags attacks. They might have felt otherwise if they were. I wish they would return. If the powers-that-be want to take these steps with Brock, I will happily give the new forum a try. It's their call, not mine. If the powers wish to keep things as they are, and need help with the finances or moderation, I'm happy to assist. Let me know how. I really appreciate this community, especially as an out-of-town Mets fan. It's been a constant in my life for more than a decade, probably closer to two decades. It's one of the first sites I check each morning, and I peek in throughout the day as a little escape. I love the quirky annual threads, like the Players of the Month with the amazing replica cards. I appreciate the folks who have kept it going. Just my 2 cents, or more.
